Bears dodged a bullet by not drafting Jalen Carter.

Like I said in there. I'm glad we didn't draft him.

I do want to hear davidl response to this. Carter clearly has mental issue to threaten someone like that.

This is just one of the risks in drafting players.  Poles was worried about his personal issues and decided to take a pass.  The Eagles thought their locker room culture could keep him under control. I hope for Carter's sake that the Eagles can provide the structure and support so he can get the help he needs.

It reminds me of the fact that we (fans) may not know what the Bears know about these draft candidates.  At least we don't have the depth of info they have.  In cases like Carter there is a risk assessment and some teams are willing to risk more than others.  But the Bears, especially in that 2023 draft, could not afford to take that risk - and instead drafted the #1 offensive lineman in that draft - Darnell Wright, who ended up being the tackle on the All-Rookie Team.  I am so thankful we drafted OL talent too.

Regarding davidl I have zero problem with any of us talking here about guys they favor in the draft.  That's half the fun here, when we can go back and forth (keeping it respectful) and talk about our favorites in the draft.  The key is to keep it all good-natured and not descend into trolling or hateful stuff.

And the fans who wanted Carter on the Bears would also be clammoring for Poles to be fired about now if we had drafted Carter.  This is a guy who may (despite his football talent) not even be in the NFL in a few years due to off the field emotional/mental issues.  I wish him the best, but it sure wasn't worth gambling - and losing that gamble.  I'm tired of the stupid "smartest guy in the room" risk taking.  I really am.  And I absolutely LOVE the Wright pick.  The OL desperately needed help and we ended up with the 2023 All-Rookie Team tackle - and I'm convinced this guy will be All-Pro in a year or so... perennial All-Pro.  I love watching him work.  He is still a rookie making rookie mistakes, but the speed/power/quickness and football IQ are all there in this guy.
