I have not viewed Barkely as a real starter, but (incredibly) Fox has a point. These are all preconceived notions. Like he says, many QBs don;t get a true chance to start. Because our QB situation sucks, he did get a real opportunity here and he looks better than I would have thought. Still not convinced, but he definitely has earned the opportunity to legitimately compete for the position. He will never be a Tom Brady but if he is solid we can win with him.My biggest fear here is knowing Fox, he may think we dodged the QB bullet with Barkely and so squander one of the few high pick opportunities to get a QB. Of course, at 4th pick that mey still be too low to get the guy Pace might want. The top picks usually go top two. Of course the consensus top picks do no always end up being the top picks.
He sure in the hell looks better then the other two QBs that have started this and if not for the fact this is 2016 and not any other seasons in past few years expect for maybe 2015 one or both would be returning next year, get a lot more bucks from the Bears then Barkely will be offered. If Shaw can come back 100% I see no reason to draft a QB but if the Bears want to daft they really have no reason to do so before the fifth round
Remember except for bad luck Barkely would have been a #1 pick in the draft, so if the Bears want a first round QB they already have him
Shaw showed some promise as a mobile type passer and so far Barkley seems to possess a lot of the same qualities Cutler has, just not the arm. Two of those three or even all three if they don't move on from Cutler this spring would not look bad at all as far as going into camp. The first guy gone should actually be Hoyer.
One more year of Cutler giving both Barkely and Shaw an opportunity to gather some knowledge and experience won't hurt either of them and it provides an opportunity to see if either is more than just a #2 level guy. If Loggains is replaced we'll have yet another new OC and another offensive rebuild on our hands so regardless of whether Fox stays or is fired it's tough to see the Bears climbing completely out of the ditch next year.
But I'll still come back to my insistence that if the McCaskeys still refuse to replace Teddy Bears with a top NFL exec to run the football operations they'll eventually squander this opportunity too. As much upside as Barkley and Shaw may have if they're aren't protected well and an offense built around their strengths the results won't be any different than they have been with Cutler.
