Whenever a coach hires someone they worked with, I always wonder if it's the best guy. People like to surround themselves with people they know and have a good working relationship with. I get that. But how often is the guy working with the very best at the position? And it happens every time? Every time a guy moves, he has been fortunate enough to have had the very best guy available already working with him? They don't really assess the talent pool IMO. They go where they know they can get the guy to go with him and they know they can work with him. So these hires rarely bring in the best. They just bring in the same crew that the HC had before. Maybe not a bad thing, but I always think that it could be better if they were truly open minded. Having said that, maybe this guy really is the best. But I don't believe a real search was done either.
Could be he was the guy primarily responsible for bringing Geno back. That would make it a good hire in my mind.

But I wonder if this being a lateral move for Waldron (instead of him being a first-time OC) he has already assembled his best staff at Seattle and wants to bring some of them here? Getsy came here in a different scenario... not having had an OC staff because he had never worked as a coordinator. Waldron surely assembled his best staff and - like you mentioned with Geno - if he has a good guy, then get that guy to come here now. LOL, but who knows, right? :-)

Seems like Kerry wasn't the guy that actually developed Geno though...

Geno is 33 years old so I would imagine more than one person along the way helped develop him. This Kerry Joseph is a fascinating guy... I've been reading up on him. What a wild journey his career has been.

Happens at every level. Attach yourself to a coach on the rise and you guarantee yourself a job. Its even worse with strength coaches. As long as you do whatever the HC says you'll have a job for life. You might and most likely WILL make the players worse...but you'll be employed as long as that dude is employed. You can't imagine the amount of college football players who actually get SLOWER in college.
I think I read somewhere Kerry threw for 4k yards and ran for 1k yards in a season in the CFL...thats crazy!!
5k yards from one dude? That IS crazy
What a life journey for this guy so far. Guy must have worked crazy hard in life. He played quarterback for tiny McNeese State (about 5k full time students). He wasn't drafted. Here's his Wiki info (LINK). He played a year for Cincy and then went to play in Europe for a few years. Then the Seahawks signed him to play defense (safety) for them and stuck to their roster for 4 seasons. Then he played QB in the CFL for years. At one point he was the league MVP and won the Grey Cup (the winning QB in their super bowl). He started coaching after he retired and has worked in college and the NFL. He's done a bit of everything as a coach, from an intern in the beginning to being a college head coach, offensive coordinator - and passing game coordinator, RB coach, and then with the Seahawks he worked with running backs, wide receivers and as assistant QB coach during Geno's tenure there. Sounds like a guy who could be a good QB coach for us.
