I would DEFINITELY do this. In fact, I'd buy a C in FA and make the rest of FA all about defense (Chris Jones? Brian Burns?). It looks like there gonna few a few quality centers available. Get one.
I think you want a vet there at C to pair with a rookie QB. You can and should draft another C/G midrounds for depth but do you want to risk throwing a rookie C in there? I don't.
I like the idea but I really really don't like Conner Williams. JMO. I think part of the problem is that if a team has a legit C talent, I just don't know if they would part with that guy. Williams strikes me as a JAG like Lucas Patrick. He does.
Williams is no JAG. He is like Jenkins. Injury prone, but very good center when healthy. He’s coming off a serious ACL, but one way to look at that is you may be getting a good player at a bargain price. Could still draft a center in 3rd round as insurance.

JAG is not accurate so I take that back. He is an upgrade over Patrick for sure. But he was the 6th worst C in the NFL this year for penalties even though he only played less than 500 snaps... our Patrick was worse but played more snaps too. If you sign a FA then yeah also draft the best C you can get in this draft. In a year play the new kid.

The rookie would be playing until Williams is ready.
Considering Burns was the other option when we traded for Moore, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Bears at least look into bringing him in. Sweat and Burns would look mighty nice together!
I doubt Bears will make big contracts for 2 DE's. I believe Sweat is set to earn $25M next year, so draft other DE is my best guess.
You’re probably right but it’d be worth it. Jordan Love shredded us like Rodgers because we couldn’t get to him. I’m with most as far as wanting most of this next offseason to focus on offense, but building up a stout DL that can get to the QB is crucial.

Their OL makes it look like protecting the QB forever is just not that hard.

Most years they have a very good OL. And most years they also have decent depth on their OL, so that when the inevitable injuries occur their season doesn't end. The Bears, on the other hand, have crap offensive lines with pitiful depth - the first half of our 2023 season was a good example. The starting OL was not that good to begin with (Lucas Patrick was abysmal... how is he even still here?) and the Bears depth was so bad that they ended up flip-flopping guys around to the point the OL in the first half of the season was a horrific thing to watch. Turnstile boys.
Wouldn't you think, that after all of these failed years, the Chicago Bears would, you know, figure this out - that the OL matters if you want a solid offense and QB1 It's like football 101 stuff. And they fail to pass this course every single season. The Packers understand how to build an offense in general, and how to develop quarterbacks in particular. Aaron Rodgers and Love were bottom of the first round picks and not "sure thing first of the draft picks." The Bears have no clue.

It really isn't, at least not when you never get called for holding! 8-)
We have NEVER figured out the offensive side of the game. Not since Ed Hughes anyway.

I was on this guy's twitter page to look at the signing of Waldron as our new OC and saw this. I don't know if any of these guys are any good. But a few have some name recognition.

Leatherwood!
He has some recognition, wish he had more cognition.
