I'll add one more thought to my previous post. Things are looking up for the team in one more area I forgot to mention. This isn't a team build with old geezer vets descending in talent. This is a VERY young ascending team. Once 2024 players are added to the roster, it's just a situation where you keep that fresh pipeline of youngsters coming into the roster each year and developing them. Obviously some won't make it. But if Poles resists the urge to deal away draft picks (like Pace did) he should be able to maintain a quality team here for years and years.
We survived the nuking of the roster in 2022. Laid the foundation of talent in 2023. The bigtime (fun time) additional building happens in 2024 and 2025. Now we can add some fancy toys to the toybox (starting with Marvin Harrison Jr.).
No need to think about that for now. Our CBs are one of the most potent in the league : JJ (he will stay), Gordon, one of Stevenson and Terell will pan out too. At S we have awesome Brisker , Jackson will probably be a goner, but we can sign or draft a S. So, I dont get it tbh.
Bears are allowing 230 yards passing per game. That ranks 23rd. The pass rush has been pretty good since Flus took over the job and Sweat arrived. Teams have been passing up the middle against our LBs, but the secondary is a bigger problem. I don’t want to restart a firestorm about it, but I want Stevenson replaced by somebody— maybe T. Smith — before next season.
Dude, the pass D was abysmal early in the year. We were either dead last or close to it (#30 or worse).
We had literally the most ineffective ass rush in the league, a bunch of key injuries in the secondary, and Williams was a huge fail as DC.
It's been improving since about week 5-6 and has improved even more since Sweat got going 4 games ago. This idea you have about the secondary being a weakness I do not understand. There isn't a secondary in history who would look good with zero pressure on the QB like we had most of the first 8 games.
Eddie is cooked and needs to be replaced o/w the secondary is damn good and getting better.

Not to beat a dead horse, but Jackson is one of two starters in the secondary that I want to replace. You know the other one. Now that we have a pass rush, he’s still getting burned.

Stevenson has had his best games thus far just in the last couple weeks.
Kyler Gordon got his ass dusted most of last season and started turning a corner near the end of the year. He's now a rock solid nickel CB starter. Rookie corners get a baptism by fire in the NFL every season and that was easy to predict here -- no one said Stevenson was gonna be Sauce Gardner right out of the box. Everyone knew he was gonna draw a bunch of DPI flags too with his aggressive style.
I will wager you a large amount of money that TS is a starting boundary corner here in September 2024. He's not going to be "replaced" cuz that would be stupid and short-sighted.

Stevenson was very bad last game. Allowed 2 conversions on third down, 16 yards on 3rd and 17, faked out for easy TD, beaten badly down the sideline for another TD if the pass was accurate.
Yeah, Vildor was “bad” his rookie year and “not quite as bad” his second, and after three years, was never very good. I wanted him replaced after rookie year, too. I’m not taking your sucker bet, but will give you mine. If he’s the starter all of 2024, he will cost us one or two games in W-L.
