Before assuming that about Fields, I want to see him in a decent scheme with solid coaching. From what I have seen so far with Getsy (and with what he got from Nagy), he hasn't had decent coaching since he was drafted.
I understand that, but not everything involved in playing the position is coachable. Some of it is inborn ability. That’s what limits a guy’s ceiling.
My point is he seems to be blowing stuff that he didn't at OSU. Maybe it's the difference between college ball and the NFL, but IMO the only way to know with any sense of certainty is if he has a better offensive system and a really good OC.

Give him a year with Harrison and a good center and an offensive coordinator. That will tell us what’s his ceiling. My point is he doesn’t need to be as good as Stroud, if everything else is in place.
One play by Fields really made an impression on me. This is the 4th & 13 play at the end of the 3rd quarter. Fields really worked the Linons DL over with the cadence and his voice. He got the Lions to jump offside and continued on with the play to hit Moore with one of the best passes I have seen recently in the NFL. IMO that is not a second-tier QB play.
When was the last time we had a Bears QB use the "free play" in this kind of situation and basically drop a dime on the receiver in the end zone? Seriously, I don't remember one doing it in the last 15 - 20 years. Plenty of QBs named Rogers and Favre have done it in Soldier Field, but no one wearing the Blue and Orange.
Fields will make some brilliant plays and some head-shaking blunders every game. You gotta just accept the whole package with him. We are winning divisional games now. Earlier this year I was worrying about Lions eating Bears. Next year Lions will be worrying about getting eaten by Bears.
Hoge made me laugh on his postgame pod (and he's a big JF fan BTW). Said Det game was the full Fields experience on display. It was. Some brilliant really good plays and some real clunkers with not a helluva lot in between.
I've accepted he's never gonna be a surgical passer. Just hoping he still has runway left to make the clunkers less clunky.
BTW, I predict the Lions are one-and-done in the playoffs. That defense still isn't good and Goff is a QB who drops off a cliff performance-wise as soon as his pass pro is less than perfect. And the Lions OL isn't looking quite so good lately.
I remember mocking the Lions on draft opening night last year and I stand by what I wrote here. They had 2 top-20 picks and, not gonna lie, I was afraid they were about to leapfrog every one else in the division for years to come. What did they do instead? They drafted a RB and an ILB!!!
I LMAO's at that one. They just spent two top-20 picks on the two most replaceable and low-impact positions in the game and they already had Monty locked up as RB1!
Gibbs and Campbell will both probably end up being good players but how much differential impact do you get from those two compared to what you could have drafted a few rounds later? Not a wise use of resources in my mind.
