This makes some very good points. When you consider all of them, it helps explain why Poles hasn't jumped at one of the edge guys yet - and might not at all this season.
LINK The lack of a free agent signing at defensive end could be the result of several reasons for the Bears and here are the potential explanations.

Meanwhile, Poles needs to spend another $45 million to meet the 2023 cap floor. He could spend it on contract extensions, but that would be a bit out of character.
I usually prefer us drafting our own edge rushers. Spending on FA is usually overkill in cap. We have 2 first round picks next year. One will be an edge rusher.

That doesn't preclude us from signing one for this season.

There are two or three out there that will be available out there around the beginning of TC that may fit in to our scheme. I assume that Poles will pick up one if he thinks we need it. But just like the case for/against signing DeAndre Hopkins, would it be better to let all the new talent we've brought in to develop by playing this year and then get what we really end up needing next draft cycle.

What edge guy signed in a few weeks would prevent any of our young guys from playing?

What I was trying to say was Poles and the coaching staff may have decided just to let the folks they currently have on the roster play and develop rather than try to get a starter edge rusher in free agency. Much like letting the young WR corps we have play and develop rather than sign a solid starter FA WR.

To be fair...our receiving corp...at least at the top 3 spots are not "young and developing" in the same way the edge guys are. Dom Rob is young and developing. DJ Moore is established, Mooney to some extent is established, as well as Claypool. Mooney probably is what he is, a slot guy who is capable of 1K yards. Claypool is really the only one where there is a question of whether he can be more than he has been. After that its young, developing guys...but those guys are buried really.
