DeAndre Hopkins was released today. He wants to play on a super bowl ready team... but money could bring him here, and the Bears have the money to do that. Should they? It would mean that Justin Fields would have DeAndre Hopkins, DJ Moore & Mooney/Claypool as the "Big Four" WRs. Fields would go from having one of the worst WR units in the NFL to having one of the best WR units in the entire NFL. Hopkins probably has 4 good years left in the tank.

I think it comes down to what our priorities are for the developing young receivers. IMO a solid #1/#2 receiver like Hopkins will take a lot of balls away from Mooney and Claypool. His production has fallen off just a bit and he will demand a fair amount of money.
Personally, I have bought in on what Poles is doing. We are rebuilding our team. I believe that Poles is putting together a group of young, fast and highly skilled WRs. I would rather use the balls we would send Hopkins' way as an investment in the younger WR's development.
Tough call as talent like this isn’t easily attained. Downside is he’s 31 and if we feel we’re a Super Bowl team in 2 seasons, then perhaps you do it. Unfortunately I don’t see us there yet and in light of Fields looking for a payday, I think we have to pass as we can’t afford them all.
It would be fun but I think Hopkins would grade the Bears as a hard-pass no matter how much money Poles put on the table (which would make Poles look dumb).
I wouldn't be surprised if the Lions sign him. It's actually a really good fit and need there.

There is no way Hopkins signs a contract with the Bears at the top of the letterhead. They just aren't competitive.
He can make more short term money renting himself to playoff contenders looking for that extra edge, and possibly getting a ring.
The Bears are where receivers go to die. Hopkins signing here is a sure sign to other teams he is done with competing.

Poles doesn’t want Hopkins. Hopkins doesn’t want Bears. He says he wants to play with the Bills. I hope to hell Lions don’t get him. They are going to be problem enough as it is.
I'd rather Poles find an Edge as I don't think we need another WR right now. We have adequate receiving talent to evaluate Fields with and aren't ready to push our chips all in to make a run. And I don't think Poles wants a diva type corroding the young locker room culture they are trying so hard to build.
