Bears coach Matt Eberflus has announced the coaching additions of Eddie George and Randy Shannon, both of whom will join the club's 2023 OTA staff as part of the NFL's Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship.
Similar to previous years, the club will once again welcome six additional Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching fellows to join them for veteran minicamp and training camp. The additional six hires will be announced in June. The program's objective is to use NFL club's training camps to give coaches and scouts opportunities to observe, participate, gain experience and ultimately gain a full-time NFL coaching position.
Interesting hires. Also interesting that the league apparently has a way for players to get into coaching. Maybe Kruetz should look into it w/out thinking he deserves to just get a job b/c of who he is. Eddie was no joke as a RB, if he's working his way up the ladder, he should also.
What a great opportunity for our RB unit to get additional coaching like this from an All-Pro NFL RB. Eddie George was a Heisman winner from Ohio State. Heck of a receiving RB too. But what a workhorse RB running the ball. Dude was a stud. He is a college coach (this Bears stint is temporary). Smart guy too. He went back to school at Ohio State and got his degree. Then he enrolled at the prestigious Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and got an MBA.
We may not agree with all the moves the Bears make with Poles & Eberflus. But I do like a LOT of what I see being done here under this regime. They are trying to build sustained winning here, and by building high character too. Eberflus from day-1 has said he wants to bring in "teaching coaches" for his staff - guys who can truly connect with these young players and develop them to their ceilings. That is his passion and focus. Teaching & connecting. I am very excited about watching these youngsters develop.
