Realize that we led the league in rushing because we HAD to run the ball and Fields had a ridiculous amount of yards.
I really hope we have a more balanced attack this year because the rest of the NFL is gonna adapt and not let Fields run for 60+ yards at a pop.
Having a good run game is a plus no question but it's a passing league. I hope we DON'T have the most rushing yards again cuz that likely means the pass O still sucks.
There is no balance, nor do they want it. Coach believes in Lovie ball, they are going to run the shit out of the ball, and will be more then happy to have Justin Fields running, even if not as much as last year. LT is a better run blocker then pass blocker, and they didn't upgrade, they did upgrade RT though. And brought in like 50 backs to either block, run or do both; and the WR they took was stated to be good in the run game. They want to run, the entire system is built around def and running.
You are absolutely correct. They brought in Foreman and Johnson to help carry the load. The Bears are gearing up to have an even stronger running game than last year. If Moore, Claypool, Mooney, Scott aren’t good enough receivers even with a great running game helping them, they are not as good as some people are hoping. If Fields can make as much improvement in his passing as Lawrence and Hurts did in 2022, the offense will be fine. The front-7 on defense is still questionable— to say the least.

I agree that Eberflus wants to see an updates version of the old Buccaneers/Lovie Smith style of football. But I am hoping that Getsy updates it with a big dose of the Aaron Rodgers/Packer offensive philosophy. The part I'm thinking of is where the offense adjusts to what the defensive game plan is giving them and finds a couple of mismatches and then beats their opponent to death with that. With the assumed improved o-line and RB room and with Fields continuing his development with a moving in space option QB game I can see the potential for a pretty high yardage offense.
Personally, I really don't want to see Fields running like he did last year. I am really hoping that Roschon Johnson takes the lead in the RB by committee scheme. I've been watching a lot of his video from Texas and my impression is he can do everything that Montgomery did for us but is faster, is a better receiver and a better pass blocker. Assuming we get consistent run blocking from the o-line, I can see all three of the RBs having success. Then I hope Getsy will be getting Fields improved on the shorter passing game. With a QB of his running ability, the opposing defense has to have a scout assigned to Fields and has to react to Fields rolling out aggressively. With our improved WR room we should be able to have some sort of option passing game that allows WRs and RBs to snag a 5 - 10 yd pass and then take the punishment that Fields took last year.
If the Bears don't show an improved o-line and a more balanced offense in 2023, I really fear that Fields will continue to run like last year and we may be developing him as Cam Newton 2.0 (and Poles will be looking for his replacement in the 2024 draft). I think we will be significantly improved on the offense but at this time of the year all we have is old videos, hype and dreams.
Thats my biggest worry, and why I'm not happy w/what they did this year in FA and the draft, and wasn't satisfied w/a cast off WR from Pitt, who drafted the guy the Bears should have.
Team has been so worried about fixing the def, since they brought in new management, they've shelved their young qb's development and he's the one that's had by far the most potential since McMahon. I don't want to see it thrown away b/c the bears owners want to get back to Bears football.

Sorry, I gotta disagree with you there.
I was at the first few games of the year (2 of our 3 wins) and I can tell you Getsy wanted to pass. He was trying to pass. Not saying it was a Brees or Brady offense where the QB chucks is 50+ times a game, but it wasn't "3 yards and a cloud of dust" either.
They COULDN'T PASS. They tried but couldn't. The pass pro was very leaky and the receivers were awful. Those clowns couldn't get open if you gave them a 3 second head start. Right after that embarrassingly bad TNF game vs Washington, Getsy reset the O into a Lamar/Baltimore-light type of scheme. They ran because THAT'S ALL THEY COULD DO at that point. They had tried to be balanced but the passing game was hopelessly inept.
I don't believe for a second that Getsy is gonna keep the handcuffs on Fields in what is in effect a key contract year for him after adding Moore and beefing up the OL. I expect a balanced attack and a lot of play action passing.

MP agree to disagree then. But they couldn't pass b/c they didn't put anything into the OL or WR's last year, instead deciding to double dip into DB's in the 2nd; something they proved didn't even come close to fixing the issue based on what they've done in the draft and UDFA again this year.
They didn't do that b/c they didn't WANT TO PASS. This year, they still don't want to or they would have made Mooney and Claypool fight for the 3rd WR spot or the bench, and would have put another OG on the roster b/c Jenkins cannot be relied on to stay healthy. They sure to hell wouldn't be satisfied w/a LT who's best quality is run blocking.
pay attention to what they are doing, it's obvious.
