There's a ton of scenarios in which EQ could end up being cut. It doesn't just have to be your scenario. How do you know a rookie drafted in rounds 3-5 won't outperform him? What round was Mooney drafted in again? We have no idea how the draft will unfold and who will fall where. I want Poles to draft good players...no matter what round it is. Hell...Poles could go out and sign 2 free agents that are a hell of a lot better than EQ and he'll get cut.
That’s all true. The case I was referring to is where Poles makes a relatively unsuccessful and/or weak attempt to upgrade the WR position. They would not have given EQ a new contract, if they did not envision a world wherein he remains on the roster. I just hope they are not delusional about how limited this whole WR group is. If so, Poles may not pursue aggressively a trade for a veteran WR1 or draft a WR in the second round. This is one of the major things I’m tracking this off-season.
OMG, please kill me...
Dude, the EQ contract means NOTHING other than he comes to camp and gets to compete for a roster spot as a backup WR. THAT'S IT. This has been explained to you multiple times now. It's a CUTTABLE 1-yr deal only for a backup vet WR/ST player. My God, stop panicking over a trivial deal which is the NFL equivalent of a replaceable minimum-wage job.
And yes, Poles knows the Bears lack personnel at WR. He isn't an idiot.

WE ALL KNOW THAT.
Of course, he could be cut. I already said that. They didn’t need to give him a new contract. They did. Presumably they had a reason to do that. That’s all I said, dude.
Poles knows we lack personnel at WR. We lack personnel all over the place. What remains to be seen is how he prioritizes the needs in FA and draft board, and can he do better at filling the WR room than we’ve seen so far.

The reasons are: He was a decent-performing FA acquisition which Pringle and Pettis were not He is a good blocker and can play STs He's a decent and cheap #4 or #5 type of option
That's it. There's no more "commitment" than that. If someone beats him out for that role in preseason, he will be released.
