those first 2 are a perfect example of why PFF is garbage.
Kmet is graded over 30 pts higher then Wesco, yet is graded almost 20 points lower; b/c of a penalty? Of the 2 in that game Kmet was the far superior player.

Pff is, was and always will be trash.
Would somebody at pff say that Wesco was the better player in the.game? He was only in the game for 15 snaps. They would probably agree that Kmet had a bigger impact in the game, and pff grade not intended for that purpose. All I take it to mean is that Wesco did his job well while he was in the game, especially run blocking, and had no major screw-ups.

If their grades don't reflect what the people grading believe then the issue is with the grading system or the grader or both.

Trash is trash, and off is trash.
That is not what I mean. I think the pff guys would say it was not intended to measure who had the most impact in the game. You have to watch the game to know that. So pff is trash if used for that purpose. A ruler is good for measuring inches but trash for measuring temperature. I just read an article about pff that explains this. They grade each play from +2 to -2, so if a CB misses 2 tackles he gets -2 but if he gets a pick-6 that wins the game on his next play he gets a +2 for that play. So these three plays add up to zero, which is not a valid indicator of the impact of these plays and this player on the game, because it undervalues the pick-6 relative to the missed tackles. This is same as Kmet missing some run blocks but then catching the big TD pass. Or Wesco executing well on his assignments, but none of those plays had a big impact on the score.
if, for example, you look at the final pff rankings of tackles for 2021, the Pro Bowlers rise to the top and the guys like Leatherwood sink to the bottom. So, over the course of a full season, it does a good job of sorting players by playing ability. That is what it measures. Not perfect, but pretty good. That is why NFL teams are using it.

In any grading system, if one person is graded higher then another for the exact same project, your theory is that it wasn't intended to say that the person w/the higher grade did better? Are you serious?

That is Billly Maddison level's of illogical.
No, that is not what I am saying. I think we have different understandings of what pff is designed to measure. One of Eberflus’s favorite phrases is “consistent execution”. That is what pff is intended to measure on a 5-point Likert scale. BTW, Trent Dilfer grades Fields every week on this scale and reports on YouTube. For pff scoring: Did he execute the block? Did he make the tackle? Etc. The guy who executes more consistently on his snaps gets the higher grade, even if he did not make a big play in the game.
Butkus might know, but I think there is a completely different analytic that tracks a player’s “explosive plays” (20+ yards on the play or something like that). On that measure, Kmet had a better game but not a better pff score.

your making an assumption that isn't stated. I'm taking it for what it says, and what it's saying is bad.
