We already got a guy Claypool who physically tests off the chart and can run the two routes Johnston knows. We need a crafty route runner who can get quick separation and move the chains on third down. ALL of the QBs still in the playoffs have that guy. Fields does not. Poles needs to get this done. No excuse in 2023. Eagles, Bengals, Chiefs, Bills went out and got their WR1 for their franchise QB.
I don't disagree...I was just making a point. Chiefs don't really have a WR1 TBH...at least one that was recently acquired. Kelce is the WR1...and he's been there.
Never mind chiefs. All the others got their WR1 via trade or draft, and are SuperBowl contenders. That needs to get done in 2023 or else the long knives come out. That should be non-negotiable for all the “support Fields” advocates.
He wants to win games in 2023. The DL is absolutely horrible, he got rid of the whole front-7 to create this mess. It’s his job to clean it up. However, I allow no excuses for not both trading AND drafting at #53 to try to get WR1. If Warren has to PUSH him into the D-Hop trade, I’m all for it.
He didn't "create the front-7 mess". It was already there the day he took the job. It was chock full of past-prime players who weren't gonna be part of a multi-year rebuild process. We have been over this a million times and multiple posters have presented the details of that multiple times.
Seriously....enough.
I disagree. In fact, two of the guys he got rid of were Pro Bowl again this year and nearly all the others were starters on other teams, AND every damn one of them was replaced by a Jack-ass who can’t play football as well. You think this was a great idea. We are never going to agree on that. But whether you adore Poles on not, this was the result of HIS decisions. This is HIS creation. He did not have to do this. He DECIDED to do it. This is now a dead horse. Let’s just see what he does with his #1 draft pick and $100 million.
End/Edge: Marcus Davenport, Charles Omenhiu, Yannick Ngakoue, Demarcus Walker, Arden Key,
Pocic would be a solid upgrade at C. But he has been on injured reserve 3 of the last 4 years (one a back injury). You'd want to make certain he is okay health wise. Not saying you take a pass on him.

+1
That's the bottom-line. If this were a poker game, Poles has pushed all his chips into the 2023-2024 pot right now. Whether folks agree or disagree with what he did - I think we can all agree that this is an epic nuking of the roster. Everything hinges on whether or not he can bring in the talent now. The draft picks and cap $$$ is useless if he can't recognize and acquire the right guys now. This is going to be pretty exciting to watch what happens now.

Every Bears fan wants Poles to somehow stock the roster with an All-Pro at every position, no matter how irrational and unrealistic that is.
Are you aware that Hopkins has a no-trade clause? Davante Adams probably does too (haven't researched that). That means it's not quite as simple as you make it sound. It's not just "pick up the phone and make a trade". Those players would have to CHOSE to come here and they may very well NOT want to. They both may make the very reasonable assessment that the Bears aren't going to be a SB team in 2023 and they want to be on a team that could actually win the whole thing without waiting any longer or betting on a rebuild working out with a young QB who still has some stuff to prove.
I've pointed out other options that don't necessarily involve a "top-5 WR". I also believe that Poles' long-term plan may be better served by focusing on the trenches (OL & DL) this offseason, even if that means making some tough choices elsewhere. He may have lots of cap space right now but also might want to save a chunk of it in anticipation of paying Fields a year from now. There's layers to this onion beyond "GET HOPKINS OR ELSE!"
"Supporting Fields" involves many possible avenues. It feels like you are setting unreasonable expectations just so you can later accuse Poles of "not doing enough". I don't know where I get that feeling from. Oh yeah, it's from the fact that you continually make ridiculous claims about last offseason. Like the Bears would have been a great team in 2022 if they had only held on to aging players who were unaffordable, on the downhill side of their careers, or, in the case of Goldman & Trevathan, already out of the league and retired.
We are a year behind Jacksonville and the Jags were not a serious SB contender this season. We are probably a year+ behind actually as they had 2 straight #1 picks and we didn't even have a FRP at all last draft. Take a deep breath and R-E-L-A-X. Rome wasn't built in a day.

We have been over this a hundred times, dude.
One of those Pro-Bowlers started hot with 7 sacks and then disappeared the 2nd half of the year. He was also unaffordable for a team undertaking a rebuild and had been hurt a good chunk of the prior 2 seasons.
The other was actually ON THE BEARS the first half of 2022, was no longer a scheme fit after switching to a 4-3, wanted more money than his position warranted, and by the way the team went only 3-5 with him on it.
Everyone else was over the hill (Trevathan), a JAG (Nichols), retired (Goldman), or a bust with their new team (Robinson).
None of these guys were foundational pieces for a 2024-25, were they?
Can we please stop with this nonsense now? Enough already--you have no case so move on.
