Seahawks might not need a lot from QB with their upgraded offensive line and their new star running back, Kenneth Walker III. He was best RB in college football last year. I have been watching him on YouTube. He has elite cutting ability to go with 4.38 speed. Sensational runner, but I don’t know whether he can block or catch on third down.

David, what do you think about Drew Lock at QB there? I've never followed his career. Not even in college. Is he capable of being the permanent replacement at QB, or just a temp guy?

Lock’s track record at Denver was not impressive, but he might be able to play reasonably well in a run-oriented offense. But first, he has to beat out Geno Smith in training camp. It will be a real competition. They both have strong arms to throw deep passes to Lockett and Metcalf to keep the defense from packing “8 in the box” to stop Walker III. I think it will be fun to watch how this all develops. The Seahawks and Bears will both be a “work in progress” this season.
You've gotta have a quarterback that can beat you over the top or the safties won't respect you. The threat of the deep ball is what loosens the defense.

Lockett and Metcalf are both deep threats. We’ll find out pretty soon how well Lock can hit them. He definitely has the arm strength, but he’s no Russell Wilson. If he is at least good enough to keep the safeties “honest”, I tell you this new RB, Kenneth Walker III will be Rookie of Year candidate. He is very hard to tackle in the open field and has excellent speed. His style reminds me of Barry Sanders. Check him out on YouTube and give me your analysis.

He's a stud... 10 years ago would have been a top five pick... Goes to show you how the league has changed to a passing league that undervalues running backs.

True. I can tell you that a lot of Seahawks fans out here were not happy about taking a RB — even in the second round.
But Pete Carrol is committed to running the ball. I think that’s why they did not go after a QB in free agency or the draft. Instead, they got the best left tackle and the best RB in the draft.

And when they go up against Tampa or GB with a stud group of dlinemen it will be 2 yards and a cloud of dust....
The question is whether a stud offensive line with a couple stud running backs can pound it on the ground 30 times and wear down the defense by the 4th quarter. I have seen that happen a few times.
In any case, the Seahawks formula is going to be play defense and ball control via a strong ground game. If Walker becomes the next Shaun Alexander for the Seahawks, it might work with Lockett and Metcalf making a few big plays along the way.
I actually really like that formula. As you said Lock is going to have to be able to convert some third downs. I'm a little surprised, with how defenses are getting smaller and faster at off ball LBer that teams haven't gone back to the big road grader OLINE's and TE's ala the Cowboys of the 90's...
