I love handing out the flat football for Bear's losses, but in trying to stay somewhat positive after another humiliating loss in which we filled up another hospital ward, who do you think had the best performance today?
I'm going Danny Trevathan. Very solid in coverage. Did a superb job in filling rushing lanes. Swarmed the ball constantly. I love having Trev and Freeman on this squad. Even when the Bears are looking fugly, you can count on solid play from those two.
You could make a case for Miller. Once he went out the OFF stopped moving.
Are you going to make a case for him? Hard to give the MVP to a player who was only in the game for the first half of play. He did have a couple of good receptions. That in-stride grab down the middle of the field was spectacular (it was also a great throw).

Nope. I'd say he was important but he didn't finish the game .
Even though he threw the int at the end, I am going with Jay Cutler. While I am all for getting a new QB after this year, and I also rip on Cutler often (the guy makes me crazy angry sometimes), I believe he was our most valuable player in this game.
He played that second half without an OL. The left side (with Leno) was total crap. The right side with Adams was even worse. His receivers were dropping key passes. He had wannabees for WR's. He had nothing. Yet he still went 17-30 for 252 yards and a TD. Normally that is nothing to be proud of, but under today's circumstances I thought few QBs - if any - in the NFL could have done any better.
He was trying to make something out of nothing all game long. No player today gave more than Jay Cutler. And you guys know I am no Cutler apologist. I just try to call them as I see them.
Sure someone else will make a seperate thread on this, but here's the top players, according to PFF. Top offensive grades:
TE Zach Miller, 83 C Cody Whitehair, 82.1 G Josh Sitton, 81.7 G Ted Larsen, 74.7 WR Josh Bellamy, 73
Top defensive grades:
CB Bryce Callahan, 87.2 LB Jerrell Freeman, 87.1 ED Leonard Floyd, 83 DT Akiem Hicks, 82.9 ED Sam Acho, 81
Danny T. bumped his avg. perf. on the year up to an 80.1 with an impressive 81.5 in run defense. Adrian Amos improved his avg to an 82.3 with a 77.7 in coverage and a 83.1 in run defense. Amos is currently ranked by PFF as the 17th best safety in the league. Trevathan is ranked as the 25th best linebacker and Freeman is ranked #2.
Other impressive (overall rankings from PFF): Akiem Hicks is ranked 14th among Defensive Interior Linemen WIllie Young is ranked 30th in Edge Defenders (and Leo Floyd has improved to 60th with an average score of 72.3) Bryce Callahan is ranked 28th in defensive backs (79.6) COdy WHitehair is the 11th best center (82.1) Josh Sitton is the 3rd best guard (87.5) Zach MIller is the 8th best TE (81.0) Jordan Howard is the 13th best HB (73.7)
AND JAY CUTLER IS THE 31st RANKED QB WITH A SCORE OF 42.8
The good news is we definitely have some pieces to work and grow with. The bad news is I'm not sure we have an HC who spends his halftime emptying his bowels rather than making adjustments.
