So they have to hire " outside consultants " to help them make football decisions , which = " yep we really don't know much about how to put together a fb team " .... then he turns around and meddles with the football people - BUT , " it's really not a problem " .
As I said before, there is no way Phillips is not involved in decisions. He will not be let go. The question is how much control will he lose and if it be enough. Second would be what kind of environment will it be. Will people want to work there if it becomes a sniping at each other environment? Is he forcing Pace to keep Fox? Was he the one that forced Fox to begin with? I don't pretend to know, but I do know that I love George. The dude is not scared to ask the right questions and make good decisions.
Wow. I'm not trying to claim credit but it's almost like I wrote that myself. In so many words it's exactly what I've been saying and we get a glimpse of two things I've long suspected were true no matter what we've been told.
1) Teddy Bear has never been far removed from daily football operations. He's always peering over someone's shoulder and more often than not his GMs.
2) As long as that remains the case those top NFL execs I insist the McCaskeys need to interview and select one to run the team won't work for them as long as Teddy Bear is in charge which explains why we ended up with a rookie GM as well.
I'll just say it again because I really do think it's that simple. The McCaskeys need to get rid of Phillips by some means.....any means really. Have the Chicago mob assassinate him if need be. But he needs to go or at the very least be reduced to having a title but no real authority over football operations.
It was widely believed they did this when Ryan Pace was hired but I suspected then that it was BS and I'm 99.999% sure of it now and have said so before. Recently I called him out over his comments about corporate relationships and boosting the Bears "brand" being a greater priority than wins which to me was a big 'ol F.U. to Bears fans. He expects us to buy tickets and souvenirs win or lose rain or shine because we always have and banks on fans being suckers enough to always do it.
He is also the guy personally responsible for the Bears playing in the smallest stadium in the NFL. A stadium that can't be modified to increase it's capacity and for continuing to insist the playing surface is adequate and safer than other surfaces. We all know that's not true but I'm betting it's a verboten topic for anyone at Halas Hall to discuss because no one ever does. Teddy Bear favors it because it's the CPD who is required to maintain it not the Bears. So what does he care about player injuries and the fan experience. The crappy sod is saving him money.
