Although I'd like to agree that Pace has grown into the role but really, it's not like he hasn't done endless permutations of possibilities. Now he suddenly "gets it". No,I think there was someone else in play. And I don't care what it is after all the whiffs. At this point I'll take it.
But you can see the differences in what type of player he drafts. First couple years it was more about traits then tape and he would go after small school gems. He started drafting more about tape and then traits and from bigger schools. White, mitch, floyd were all traits and assuming ceiling. Smith and Fields had the tape to back up the traits, and both major football factories. You see it in the 2nd rd picks also.
Agree except with Floyd who also came out of UGA as does Smith and Fields (just for a short time). I think scheme hurt Floyd in terms of being successful as last season for him was a different story.

Right, and aren't all of those things seemingly elementary things? It wasn't as if he was a complete green horn let alone seeing blatant deficiencies and not addressing them in some form.
Whatever the case I hope it works out.
no emery did the same thing, but never learned. A lot of GM's do it. It's not elementary, it's a school of thought. You either grow from it or you don't. He's grown.

He came from a big school, but he was more projection as an edge rusher then the tape showed. UGA used him all over the field(It's why I was hoping they would use him as an ILB). The scheme change from Vic to Fangio did hurt him severely though.
It goes to show you that scheme matters for most players in the NFL; very few are good enough to not need a specific scheme

Absolutely. I wasn’t a fan of what we seemed to be running defensively last season. We didn’t seem to attack like prior years. But, we are where we are and it’s time to win some games.
