My guess is that Phillip's "retires" they bring in a new team president that will oversee pace and nagy for a year and decide what to do in 2022, it allows them to get one year closer to not having to pay either for a contract that is likely not over(by all accounts no one knows either pace or nagys contract situation).

So Pace and Nagy have another year. Apparently both were under contract for 2021 then? (I believe Nagy w/2 years). This would make sense as it would be so very McCaskey.
Pagano probably opted to retire as someone was going to have to be the fall guy.
At least we have nice ownership, FO and coaching staff! 🤗😜
Here's hoping Pace doesn't out of desperation put the organization into further salary cap hell in 2022 & beyond. It is tough though imagining Pace making things any better considering the position he finds himself (on his own accord).

4 coaches in a decade. Maybe, and I'm just spit balling here, it might take a coach a bit more than 2 years to get the job done. As I've said before...I'd have been good either way, but I'm not mad Nagy is going to be brought back...I think he's a good HC. I saw this somewhere and I'll repeat it here: I'm not sure why all of you expected a coach 8 games over .500 and 2 playoff appearances in 3 years would be fired. Say what you will about how they got there, but it is what it is. There's a lot of teams who wish they were in the playoffs 2 out of 3 years.
Do I think there are things on this team/organization that need to be fixed? Yep. But I'm not 100% sure Nagy is one of them.

One of the things I hope the new DC does is make the defense his own. I thought one of the mistakes Pagano made was trying to incorporate Fangios schemes and terminology. Make the defense yours man! Comparing the defense Pagano called to his other defenses and it didn't look close to me. Whoever comes in, don't try and be Fangio...be your own guy and call your defense.
If we bring back our offense "guru" Nagy, then I wonder what the plan is to fix the offense? A 7th year for Pace to figure out the QB position doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. A 4th season of "guru" Nagy's offense is a total buzz-kill. It sounds like they kicked the can down to 2022. Those McCaskeys are pretty cunning. A year more here. Another year there. And then it's a decade, or three that slip by. The only "constant" is the mediocre or downright bad teams they put on the field on gamedays (most years). Instead of "Monsters of the Midway" they are the "Mediocres of the Midway" decade after decade.
Oh well. Maybe in a year that has been so crazy and different there is some comfort in that the Bears never change. Different year. Same Bears. LOL, I can't even get angry about it anymore. I think I'm numb to it all now.

The Eagles just fired a HC only a couple years out from winning the SB. I'm ok with Nagy staying (Pace not so much) but please don't tell me he's above reproach or can't be fired because "he has a winning record".

It's where the bar is set here in Chicago. Seriously. This is okay here. An 8 win season and one-and-done in the playoffs punches your ticket for yet another mediocre year here. If this was all the McCaskeys need to give a passing grade to the GM/HC then why bother letting Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith go? They were doing mediocre pretty well when they were let go. Yeah, I don't get it. Well, actually I do get it. The cash-cow billion dollar Bears franchise coins money every year for the family. The bar set on mediocre pays just as well for them year-in and year-out. So why bother? Right?
It's a pretty good gig for the family members of Papa Bear.
We fired Lovie after a better season than the one we just saw. If you're happy with a playoff "appearance" in an expanded playoff and where we really had absolutely no shot at making any kind of a run, then I guess Nagy is the man. I may be proven wrong, but this will eventually ignominiously end with Nagy letting the door hit his ass on the way out, just like Tresticles and Foxxy.
