Monster posted a thread with a YouTube link of the Bears vs the Cowboys game from 1985. In that mix was also the Super Bowl XX game against the Pats and the miracle come from behind win against the Cards in 2006. The Dennis Green "post game rant" game you may recall where he shouted "we had 'em and we let 'em off the hook" and they actually did and "if you want to crown 'em champs then crown 'em", which eventually we were thanks again to our defense and Devin Hester, not Rex.
We stunk for most of the game or should I say Sexy Rexy stunk from his very first pass when he over threw a wide open Bernard Berrian for a TD to his four turnovers before the half which gave AZ a 20 point lead at halftime. Listen to the interplay between Charles Barkley and Tony "Kornhole" right before the half where Tony is boosting up the Cards and Barkley calls him out prophetically saying "20 points ain't gonna be enough to win this game". LOL Much like Skip Bayless, "Kornhole" is another who should never by allowed to have a mic in front of his face.
But......my real reason for posting the link to this game is to show that we've had QBs like Rex, who did get us to a SB, but who have also played far worse, made even more mistakes, and had as many or more costly turnovers in a game than Jay Cutler has. And this was our prize 1st round pick QB in his 4th year in the NFL. He threw two picks before the half, had two more nearly picked off, and on top of that had two fumbles deep in our own end. He was a disaster. Some like to rather conveniently forget those games and what it was like at times before Cutler came along. This was certainly one of those games and if not for Devin Hester and superb defensive effort by Urlacher in the second half this would have been our first loss of the season.
And again let me say this is not offered so much as an excuse to keep Cutler around because as I've said already, I'm ready to move on whenever we have a better option. But much like the other thread I began to refute how he's disliked by teammates or isn't a strong leader. This too is offered simply to refute the idea that Cutler is the only top Bears QB who ever had a bunch of game killing turnovers. It's a glimpse of life before Cutler AND what life could be after Cutler if we aren't cautious in who we choose to replace him. We have had as bad or worse and it can happen again.
That's all this is. A simple reminder. So watch at your convenience. It's a pretty thrilling game once the second half begins but Rex is a total disaster in the first half and looked like he didn't have a clue of what to do about it. He just kept making mistakes and turnovers nearly every time he got his hands on the ball. I can imagine how the defense felt about him that night. LOL
