But that wasn't what Ric posted. He said "do something", not do the same or do as well and that was why I responded as I did.
I think CWash has shown he can play DE at this level but not as an every down "baller" so far. What I'm intrigued by is his combination of size and speed. The guy goes 295lbs and he still moves like he did as a 265lb rookie. He always had upside but this is the closets I've ever seen him come to realizing it.
He's barely shown he is rotational quality, let alone all pro. Lets give the man some time.
But you said let's wait 'til he shown something as if he hasn't. I challenged you on that one aspect of what you posted. He's shown some pretty incredible strength and speed so far and this is really his first year playing DE. He was on the IR last year and before that he was a 265lb OLB not a 295lb DE. That's all I'm saying not that he's bucking for All Pro.
I like Sutton too it's just too bad for him and his career that he's stuck playing NT in a 3-4 when his best position is a 3 tech DT in a 4-3. But for his size he's actually held up OK. He's 6'0 and less than 300lbs now so he's a bit of a "tweener" for a 3-4 DL. Not quite enough "length" for a DE and not enough "size" for a 2 gap NT.
Sutton has played well this year. I expect he will be a solid back-up for Goldman again next year. If CornWash fails to play himself ahead of Unrein by the end of this season, I am personally calling for James Comey to launch an FBI investigation.

Sutton and Unrein are both over achievers. Try hard guys who are valuable as backups but marginal as starters if you want a dominating defense. CWash is the kind of player who actually does have the potential to be dominating if the light goes on fully and permanently.
Unrein was inactive yesterday -- sore back or something. That gave me a great chance to get a head -to-head comparison of CornWash and Bullard, as they each got about 40 snaps. CornWash CLEARLY outplayed Bullard in this game. The PFF folks are seeing the same thing I am. Right now, CornWash has an overall rating of 74.3 which is pretty decent by their standards, and Bullard is at 45.8 and Unrein at 44.0, which sucks according to their scales. Bullard did nothing in this game.
I estimate that CornWash is getting double-teamed about 75% of the time on 3rd down, which is good for Floyd. I still say they should line up on the same side most of the time to give Floyd single-blockers. A good example was at 5:48 of the first quarter when CornWash was double-teamed and Floyd got in for a pass deflection. CornWash was also double-teamed at 2:36 and 1:56, but at 1:21 he got single-blocking and got good penetration (Bears got interception on that play).
Second quarter: 11:30 -- back to double-teamed. Then, at 10:02, Bullard is in the game, and Bucs get long run on his side (fortunately called back by their holding penalty against McPhee). There was another 12-yd. run against Bullard's side at 9:37. CornWash back in and double-teamed at 8:19. Also, at 7:39, but held up against the double-team to force the runner to go outside. No ****ing way either Unrein or Bullard are strong enough to do that. Made a good pass rush again at 0:41 when single-blocked.
Third quarter: Biggest momentum play of the game. CornWash took out two blockers as Floyd stunted around him to the inside for a clean shot at sacking Winston. He missed the tackle, and then Floyd, Young, and CornWash were chasing Winston clear back to his own goal line. He then unloads a LONG pass completion for the first down. That play was a huge momentum swing, and the Bears never recovered. Our defensive front -7 is going to be solid next season, IF we can keep all these guys on the roster and healthy. I wish I could say the same for the defensive backs.
Bottom line: It is past time for the Bears coaches to bench Unrein and install CornWash at the DE position opposite Hicks. It isn't even close.
