We're approaching the halfway point of the season and while certain players might collapse in week 8, that alone doesn't make the duds of the midseason marker. For my next article I want to do a recap of the studs and duds of Fangino's (sp) and Fangina's defense up the halfway point.

I wanted to pick McPhee but then I realized he has only played one game so far. So I went with Glenn (for obvious reasons) and Floyd instead.
Even though I'm still not giving up on Floyd, he's been a major disappointment so far. A top 10 pick should always be a day one starter. He's got all the skills in the world but still doesn't know how to use them.
Btw, Bears brought back Glenn on Wed, signed him to the PS.
For what we paid to Danny T, he hasn't done much. He definitely isn't the leader of the defense. The play caller is Freeman, and he's also the playmaker.

I'd have to agree that of the two ILBs we signed it's Freeman who has outplayed his contract so far. Trevathan has been banged up a bit and of the two I believe he's been affected most by the loss of Goldman to protect him.
Otherwise up until the GB game Floyd has to have been my single biggest disappointment. Top ten picks are expected to start and make an impact and prior to the last game he simply has not done that. How he performs during the second half of the season will determine his final grade but to date he's been sub par in nearly every way he could be.
As for the rest of the defense they've all played some spotty football. Some very good games, some very bad ones. So there simply hasn't been enough consistency from most of them to call all but one or two a stud and just as few have been a complete dud every game. They simply don't play well for 60 minutes although some of that goes on the offense for not being able to control the ball well enough to keep them off the field.
The two biggest criticisms I have are holdovers from last year and those are the defenses lack of turnovers and their inability to make key 3rd down stops. In that regard they keep themselves on the field more than they should.
SHocked to see so many people torch Trev. He hasn't been great this year, but prior to this thread I haven't read any criticism of him NOR have I seen anything that stands out as below average. He's been an average LB who maybe was expected to be better than he is - afterall, TRev. went from a top 3 defensive unit to a middling defensive unit.
Not many neg. votes for Unrein or Washington and only two votes (thus far) for secondary players. Very interesting.
Expectations mean something. No one thought Mitch or Corny would do much, a lot was put on Danny T helping turn the D around, and really the only 2 standing out are Freeman and Hicks.
I also like to add that our whole secondary has been very disappointing. Lack of playmaking ability is really killing us out there. Our best DB has been out the whole season and possibly the whole year if they choose to bring back White.
Amos was getting exposed left and right against the Packers. Couldn't tackle and costing us penalties.
Hall has been hurt ever since that Cowboys game.
Porter has been getting somewhat exposed lately.
Glenn and Jones-Quartey really ain't starter material.
I still like to know why we never attempted to sign Sean Smith to a long term deal. He came into FA late and we had the cap space to do so.
