Okay, so I know some of us like to do mocks, and I know there is always a lot of discussion, as pointless as it is, of where players/positions should be drafted. So I'm going to go back 4 years for each position. I'll do 1 page of players normally 50 per page, and reduce them down by position if needed(ie ilb/olb/mlb/slb/wlb(those last 2 are normally just lb). I'll look which players were ranked the highest and how many times they were ranked, it won't be a full 50 players, see ex.
ex I just did ILB's, of the top 50, normally there were 20-30 ILB's for each year so I only did however many were in that year, 20-30. WR's TE's and RB's will probably be the full 50, and chopped down based on how the #'s look. QB I'll probably only do top 15. Not sure how I'll do OT, OG, C, as they don't have stats.
*I'm doing this mostly for me to format how I would do the drafts, as I never try and actually mock what a team, specifically Pace is going to do. It's impossible, I don't have pro scouts looking for what I want nor do I have the teams ranking of current players and team needs. feel free to ignore it, or talk about it.
**Yes this is an exersize in waxing idotic, but I have nothing better to do most of the time while at work **

1st thing I noticed, but it doesn't show here, is that there is a trend to draft 3-4 ILB's higher in the draft in the last 2 years. Not sure why, if it's b/c there is a trend to moving to a 3-4 or if it has to do w/needing to secure the top athlete b/c of the amount of passing that is going on in the league now. But b/c all the top 10 picks were in the last 2 years the #'s do get skewed some. But you can see that the majority on the list, in terms of high ranking and # of times on the list are outside of the 1st round, especially outside of the top 10. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and udfa all show up multiple times at the top of the list.
I think you are correct about teams wanting more athletic ILBs. And I believe this goes back to colleges moving to more spread concepts. It all bleeds over into the NFL. College OFF go more spread, college DEF move guys who were OLB or big safties to ILB. NFL OFF copy spread concepts and NFL DEF adjust to get more athletic.
The ringer did an article on the Ravens which was mostly drivel, but they did mention that the Ravens are dsigned on OFF to not only take advantage of Jackson's skills, but also feature big OL-men and a big RB (Mark Ingram) to take advantage of lighter defenses. Their thinking is that speed kills but power over-rules.
Also that Jackson led the league in TDs thrown from the pocket, so I guess he's a pocket passer who is the greatest running qb ever?

Is there a stat for that? doing some basic leg work one thing I saw said he was at his best in the league in 3step drops; which is likely 1 or 2 reads, which makes sense w/how that offense works. 3 step drop, if nothing is there don't wait run. Its something I think the Bears should be doing w/Mitch. I also saw of his 36 TD's(which lead the league) he threw 27 w/no motion, so 9 of his TD's were thrown while in motion, also makes sense when it's a 3 step drop if it's not there run but not sure how that ranks in the league. Winston and Wilson were the next qb's in the league in TD's, if either threw td's mostly through the pocket it would be really close. It also said he was best at throwing to recievers w/at least 1step of seperation, and to the TE's; again makes sense as they are asking him to not make risky throws, if its not there run.
*full disclosure, this was a PFF article, but I think in this instance they aren't making up their own stats like qb hurry, or if a def got w/in 3 steps of a rusher the OL failed, even though some are simply asked to push the defender behind which allows the qb to step up. It breaks down how each qb did on which reciever they threw to and on what kind of route; and how long they took throw it(3-5-7 step drops). Still not sure I can take this to serious, how do they know which wr or te was the first option and which ones weren't really options at all, but merely decoy's? Sadly I didn't see anything else other then the espn splits section that had motion vs non motion.
as for ILB's, I think that's a valid point Brasil, it's very possible that b/c of changes in the NFL in how O's work it's creating changes in the draft on the Def side. Will be interesting to see how it all works. I need to get back on this; but it's a chore to do, tons of work involved and some positions make my head hurt...
