I do agree with you but I'm also gonna insist that as long as the Bears keep doing things the same old ways they have for years nothing will ever change for long.  Even submarines surface every once in a while which is basically all we've seen since the Ditka era ended.   A handful of periodic surfacings.

I believe what I suggested above is the only way any moribund Chicago sports franchise can turn around and those who won't, like the Sox and the Bulls, will continue to fail at the hands of poor decisions by their owners.

Although Rocky Wirtz was still family his apple fell so far from old Dollar Bill's tree it wasn't even in the same orchard so in effect while ownership remained somewhat related the dynamic changed so drastically they were no longer the same team.

The Ricketts Family has done much the same with the Cubs by hiring two younger dynamic guys to run the baseball operations and rebuild the team.  Yesterday the Trib posted an article on all of the trades and changes that have come about since they took over and not only are they winning like I've never seen them win in my lifetime (which is lengthy) but the entire organization has been revitalized.

So the McCaskey's now have a decision to make as far as whether they want to follow the blueprints of the Hawks and Cubs or they'll continue to be content as the NFL version of the Sox and Bulls.  They're the only ones who can change this so it's up to them now and their next move will tell us just how dead set they are about keeping their word and the promises they made to fans nearly two years ago.

Right now Im not sure this team is 1 player away. Pace is going to have to hit on another 3-4 players next year and the year after. And at some point, they need a more Goldmans(difference makers) and less Langfords(just guys).


The article hits home to me. What should be the NFL's flagship has been stuck at harbor rotting away. Bears had a decent stretch w/Lovie but he was on borrowed time the minute he got more say in the draft and roster after the SB. You can look at pre/post SB drafts and the lvl of talent was stark and you could tell there was going to be an end of that era sooner or later. 

Doug Buffone realized what this article is saying 2-3 years ago and it drove him nuts and pissed him off. This team is in dire need of real talent, including QB, and Pass rushers and DB's. Pass rushers that are hurt do the team no good. QB's that cannot put the ball in the endzone, or are prone to turn the ball over do the team no good. HC's can coach to their full potential, but if the talent isn't there it doesn't mean anything. Every great coach had great talent on the field, the Bears haven't had  great talent since Angelo was drafting. Actually the talent has probably hit new lows.
