I just don't follow the Cowboys at all. For those of you who do watch them, is this Dak Prescott for real?
He's not the prototypical QB. He's not one of the taller QB's, and a 4th round draft pick... not a top-5 pick like the blue chippers. But would you think this type of draft pick would be a good one for us? Is he really a franchise QB?

So far I have been impressed with him. I think he is the future for the Cowboys. As for the Bears, they should draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round. Then have the new QB, Connor Shaw, and Matt fight for the starting role.

I think he's for real. As noted we have Shaw, the question in my mind is - do we have the ability to coach up a young qb and make him successful. We tend to fail in this regard.

I think the last Bears QB to be coached that was successful was Jim Harbaugh. Since then it has been crap and that is what scares me.
I realize a rookie QB will struggle. But we aren't exactly lighting it up with Cutler/Hoyer here. The OL should be halfway decent next year. We have some good WR's... certainly better than a number of other teams in the NFL. We have a solid rookie RB now who should get better and better. I'd like to see us draft a new QB in the next draft for sure.

Dallas did a good job of adding value at RB and QB. They needed a replacement if/when Romo went down and they realized that the guys they played last year weren't going to do more than...wel...suck. So during the draft they added value with a 4th round pick. Even better was the pick of EE in the first. There may have been more 'value' plays but they know the strength of their team is OL and so by added EE in the first they wer able to multiply the value he would add. Some here want to say that Howard and EE are 'the same." But its not true. No matter how you cherry pick your stats its not true. End of story. Just go home.
Having said that, I don't think either one would be playing well here is Chicago. Why not? You build a team to multiply the talents of the individual players. Dallas did that by using a RB who would benefit from an elite OL (and there were also people arguing that the Dallas line wasn't elite. For shame...) and making a decision to go with a rookie QB who could rely on an explosive running game while not having to carry the whole load.
If the Bears OL is able to really turn the corner and with Sitton out who knows what will happen going forward, the pick of Howard will turn out to be a good one. He'll never be a home run hitter (Forte wasn't one for what its worth) but a true grinder has value (see Bettis, Jerome or Martin, Curtis or George, Eddie among others.) Depending on luck (injury, other draft picks panning out, who-knows-what-else could happen) EE could end up being better than Howard or Howard better than EE. Right now, both teams got what they wanted.
Dak is legit, and he really shouldn't have been a 4th round draft pick. I think he got into some problems w/a DUI that dropped him from a late 2nd, early 3rd.
It definitely helps that he was brought onto a team that is legit also, but he's really good also. A guy like Hoyer wouldn't be doing what he's doing in Dallas, he'd still be incapable of putting the ball in the endzone.

Dallas has a GREAT offensive line. In fact, it is a prime example of what you have been preaching ever since I first started reading your posts JABF. EE and Prescott have both looked very good from behind it. I have yet to see a team shut down EE and force Prescott to make 20+ perfect throws consecutively, so I cannot be completely certain how good he is. That being said, he looked very poised and in control during the 'girls visit to Lambeau sunday.
AN OL cannot make a QB put the ball in the right place consistently. Accuracy is what it is over the course of a game; same w/judgement. We have all seen QB's w/zero pressure put up wtf were they thinking throws, and make amazing throws w/people in their face. That OL gives up sacks and pressures, but Dak is able to get the ball out or escape to get the ball out, and he has the smarts and accuracy to help Dallas win. Would he be this amazing on another team w/a weaker OL, no,but he'd still look like a legit QB in this league.
