Link What role will Brad Childress play on Bears' offensive staff?
Earlier this month, it was announced that Brad Childress would return to the Chicago Bears in the role of senior offensive assistant. As for what that role would entail, not much was known. Now, new details have emerged about what Childress will be doing with Chicago.
Overall there is a nice mix of coaching minds on this team right now, from younger innovative guys who will have cutting edge ideas, to older guys who have pretty much "seen it all" at the NFL level spanning many years. The "ideal" is to have both resources on your staff.
I'll bet the payroll for this entire staff is significant. As fans we usually focus on the head coach and the main coordinators. But this is a coaching staff that is pretty impressive from top-to-bottom. I feel like we have missed this in the past and as a direct result we did not develop young players so that they could reach their true ceiling. At worst, I can't help but wonder if they actually ruined some young players here by putting them under clueless coaches... obviously we will never know for sure, but that is my gut feeling.
Now when young players come here I feel confident that THIS coaching staff will teach these guys how to be their best. Getting back to Childress, I'll bet he'll be a great help to Nagy in a lot of ways.

I do understand that, Funky. I just feel that there is a huge difference with his role now with the Bears. He is just filling a role now to support the overall coaching staff. He brings 41 years of coaching experience & he and Nagy seem to have a good coaching relationship from past years. Nagy is the coach. But he has a number of experienced coaches serving him now. Being so young (Nagy) I like having some experience around, especially if we return to the playoffs and make a serious super bowl run at some point.
