Mike McCarthy Trashes Packers GM For How His Firing Was Handled By Erik Lambert - April 3rd, 2019
Former head coach Mike McCarthy has remained quiet since his unceremonious exit back in December. The man who ran the Green Bay Packers for 13 years, winning 135 games and a Super Bowl. One can imagine someone of his stature received a proper sendoff for his incredible service to the organization. Nope. McCarthy was fired before the season was even over following a rough loss at Lambeau Field to the Arizona Cardinals.
While he knew the defeat wasn’t a good look, McCarthy didn’t believe he would be fired. At least not yet. There was still an outside chance, however slim, that the team could make the playoffs. It turns out new GM Mark Murphy had no intention of at least letting McCarthy finish out the season.

The firing of Mike McCarthy couldn't have been handled worse... It literally should have taken place two years ago....
I understand the need to move on from him. I don't understand why it couldn't have been handled in a more respectful manner. It sounds like Aaron Rodgers is no longer the King either, if the media reports are accurate regarding how the GM is interacting with him. I have to wonder if AR will be done soon also in Green Bay. Maybe they'll just nuke the team and do a complete rebuild - including at QB. If Rodgers is, in fact, that toxic in the locker room, then I would understand THAT move also. Maybe not this year, but sooner rather than later.

I can't imagine them moving on from AR. Despite a down year in 2018, he's still the best overall QB in the league IMO. Having said that, Rodgers was apparently told to "not be the problem" with regard to the new HC and that's a pretty damning indictment of him having BEEN a problem in the past. Whether he takes that to heart or his ego and prickly sensitivity continue to intervene remains to be seen. If he doesn't do a better job with regard to "chemistry" with his HC and fellow players then maybe something could happen a year or two from now. But it's hard to "move on" from a player that's almost impossible to replace and the fan base would lose their freaking minds.
The Bleacher Report article from a couple days ago did alot to confirm the suspicions that many had. AR is a phenomenal QB talent but seems to be not very easy to work with professionally or even get along with personally. When a team is winning and winning often those things get papered over. When the winning becomes less frequent, the ugliness beneath the surface tens to seep out. Cutler for years was lambasted for being "detached" and "aloof" while Rodgers for years escaped most criticism for his bitching at receivers, petulant whining when something doesn't go his way, and clear public disdain for McCarthy. When the consistent winning stopped the last 2 seasons, it bubbled to the surface.

Sometimes thats just what the team needs; and the player also.
