Bears brought back a familiar face, team announced a one-year deal with offensive lineman Ted Larsen, who played in Chicago in 2016 under John Fox.
Larsen started eight games for the Bears in 2016 after Kyle Long injured his ankle, and he’s spent the last two seasons as a starter for the Miami Dolphins.
Back in Chicago, Larsen will move to a backup role, providing veteran depth at both center and guard.
That makes it 11 offensive linemen now on our roster (LINK). There ARE a few guys getting a bit of age on them. My hope is that we don't waste these years where we have Harry Hiestand. Nothing wrong with having good vets on the team, but my hope is that Harry has an opportunity to develop young talent that can be with us for the next 5-8 years and help the Bears win a super bowl (or more than one). But Ted is probably a good depth guy for 1 season or 2. Until we get decent draft picks again.
Harry won't be here forever. And we've had some really bad OL coaches over the years. Let's get max use out of Hiestand while we have him here. He is a priceless resource that is probably wasted with 30+ year old guys on their way down.

we'll see how the draft plays out
+1 And I'm okay with what we have now. But ideally Harry can develop us a few studs to replace guys like Long/Massie/Larsen/Sowell and even Leno, who is not old, won't be here forever. It would be a damned shame to waste these Harry Hiestand years. IMHO, he is a one-in-a-million OL coach. Best of the best. LOL, of course I could be biased :-)
