Emery and Trestman did a lot of damage here. At least in Baltimore he's just a coordinator and can only kill one unit there - and once they get a decent OC next year the team will rebound. Here, on the other hand, with a bad GM and a bad HC, the damage was horrific. Angelo/Lovie left a team with a lot of problems, and then Emery/Trestman took it even lower.
We are still digging out of the rubble left by these guys.
I'm just throwing those two years under Trestman and Tucker out the window since neither was a capable NFL coach. Tucker is back in the college ranks where he belongs and Trestman is about to have his passport and visa stamped for another trip back to Canada or the college ranks. Kromer came out of it worst of all serving his time as an OL coach again in the snow and cold of Buffalo. That's about as close to Canada as you can get without crossing the border.
Of greater concern though is have Pace and Fox made this team any better? That's the real debate here. Even putting injuries aside this team is far better on paper than the one they were handed and yet the results haven't changed. Jax beat Indy and then it's Minny and GB. We're staring down the barrel of 1-8 at the bye. That's sub Trestman level.
I mean did we have as many talented drafted guys as we have now under Trestman's first two years?
Whitehair looking great. Goldman was a great pickup last year and the team is really hurting without him and Amos is a solid hitter. Howard is looking to be the man to move on from Forte. If anything we need to keep Pace longer than Fox. Now with Fox I don't know if he's in control of the play calling on offense or if that goes to Loggains. There is no reason why we're going 300+ pass yards plus another 100 running yards yet not getting 30+ points a game.
The one plus for bringing in Fox was Fangio. Even with all the injuries we have on defense can make average talent look great. We need to keep this man here for a long time. I wouldn't even mind promoting him. Players under him seem to play with more heart.
