Liked this hire. take an already skilled group and amp it up a bit. Like going from the lovie 2, to Rivera amping it up some.
Same here. Nothing against Fangio, I think the Bears need some like Pags to make this D more aggressive. Espcially against the quick releases that other teams do.

Those quick passes were the recipe to beat this defense. And you could see teams with the requisite personnel use that recipe very effectively against us. The use of exotic pressures will help beat that by causing the QB to have to process more quickly. Looking forward to seeing it in action.

Also why he is such a proponent of press coverage CBs. And why it will be interesting to see what he does with Fuller.
my hope is this guy brings more killer instinct to the bears. all i mean by that is blitzing more versus playing come up and tackle on third down. showing a little more blitzing should make calling plays on third and fourth down harder for teams as they'll have to think more about protections. with the talent we have at S this could lead to some big plays.

I'm not really onboard the "aggressive just to be aggressive" style of defense. Everyone always remembers when the blitz gets home and forgets all about the times when it blows up in your face because you didn't have enough people in coverage.
It's similar to how some look at prevent defenses. They remember the 5% of the time it didn't work and forget about the other 95% of the time when it does.
That said I'm curious what Pagano is going to bring to the table.
He was DC for one year....that's the only year anyone can say it was "his" defense if we are going to just be honest.
Right now IMO he is in that spectrum of....could be bad to could be great...It's not as bad as some of the question marks i felt for Nagy lol but that's been a decent experience so far, so what the hell
At least he has coached on all of the levels(Positions Coach/Coordinator/HC)...I'm comfortable giving the guy an honest "judgmental free" chance, but the 8 week clock will be ticking..pending injuries(knock on wood)
Ok...my point remains though...the film backs up the talk. Are you expecting Nagy to drastically change his play calling next year and not be what he was this year? The point was not about whether he'll be good or bad as DC...it was about his style of defense. He said he wants an aggressive defense that wreaks havoc with calculated blitzes...as I said...film backs that up. Results are something else entirely.
One year of film from him is what i'm saying...you have one year of film of him calling plays as a DC. The rest of his years in the league were called by other people. Surely he oversaw the play calling at the Indy gig a bit, but i don't believe he was outright calling every defensive play.
So looking at film outside of his one DC year is not reliable as to what we might see from him.

With the range Jackson has, we can be aggressive much more without risking as much. The goal is to cause big field position changes, not mindless.
If he can keep the defense on the same level it is currently, I'll be happy. Anything more is gravy. One thing I really like about the hire is he has absolutely zero interest in being a head coach again, so if he is successful we don't have to worry about losing him every year (like we did Fangio) for a head coaching position. So the defense can grow more every year in the system & Naggy can focus more on offense!

GO BEARS!
+1 All good points. Just today I was thinking about how fun it was to be a Bears fan this past season. Nobody knows for sure what next season will bring, but at least we should have a lot of fun watching 'em play. I had almost forgotten how good it feels to have a solid Bears team to watch. It is a team that has the potential to beat anyone now. We will lose games too, but it's a class team now with young talent and great coaching that can develop young talent to their ceilings. Gotta love that.
