Beginning in 2006 when the Bears won the NFC, the information tracked the number of possible starts by those draftees through now, a total of 924 since that Super Bowl year that includes the drafts in which they had spent that top pick on something else they needed desperately. Included are selections by general managers Jerry Angelo, Phil Emery and Ryan Pace.
Of those 924 possible starts for the team, Bears first-rounders have made just 213 of them.
To give some context, over the same period the Packers have received 471 game starts from their first-rounders, the Vikings 593 and the Lions 708. Even noting a couple of seasons when one of those teams had more than one pick in the round, it’s striking that those of the Bears have produced less than half of the next-closest divisional rival.
And this is just measuring how often they even showed up, not even beginning to take into account how good they have actually been.
It goes a long way to illustrate why the Bears are where they are.
White can't stay healthy and even when healthy is so far from being what he was touted to be right now I see another Cordarrelle Patterson rather than a Julio Jones, an AJ Green, or an Odell Beckham. So that's one strike.
Floyd hasn't been in football shape since he arrived so I have no idea what's up with that. Fangio and Pace can't even seem to agree on how heavy the kid should be and if he's anywhere near the 244lbs he's listed at I'd be thinking it's only when he had rocks in his pocket at a weigh in. So far he's just Shea v2.0. The little pass rusher who could not. So that's 1 1/2 to 2 strikes.
These failures are bad enough but when both were as over drafted and over promoted as they have been then you have a real trust issue going on with the fans and the media. As badly as they seem to have missed on these two why would anyone want Pace and his staff drafting a QB where the risks are even higher of getting a failure?
Pass rushers and pass catchers are usually pretty safe bets high in a draft compared to OT, QBs and DBs. We took one of each and both look like busts in the short run. I mean we have UDFAs who are outplaying these guys and that's not good for longevity as far as a GM and his scouts go. Not unless Pace has not been the guiding hand in round one of these drafts and that we don't really know.
As it stands it's not breaking my heart both are out. We have better WRs on the bench now and not only has Floyd proven he can't rush well. He can't seem to cover much better. Just once I'd like to see one of these SEC "tweener" types ever turn into a half way decent pro but they never do. They play well in college where their speed and lack of size doesn't hurt them but once you put them up against guys who know how to handle the speed and are 70-100lbs bigger they're toast. Floyd is never gonna cut it playing at under 250-255lbs period.

Finally someone else sees that these new toys off the shelf ain't as good as they should be.
A few posters keep telling us how Floyd is new and give the man a chance. From my experience watching him play he isn't even average out there. Dude is Shea level bad and many are blinded by the fact he's new to truly be critical on him.
Who's idea was it to draft an undersized pass rusher who hasn't been a true pass rusher his whole career in college? Who ever that was should not be allowed to have an input on next year's first round draft pick. I don't know if I can blame Pace on our first round picks being busts. I just find it strange Pace can find great talent in the 2nd round yet his 1st round picks have been laughable at best. Those that want to defend Pace's draft picks understand I'm not expecting Pro Bowl level performance. I expect average performance and right now both First round picks don't have that.
As you pointed out with White he doesn't look like Jones or Green. He reminds me of Cordarrelle Patterson but without the kick return ability. His lack of knowledge on a route tree is also showing. I know a few here like to defend White not knowing the basics but why is it that Fuller can play at a great level? Why is it that Cooper can play at a great level. I believe we have better WRs on the bench than we do with White. I'm not saying don't play the man and if he can come back before the season ends we should play him. 3.5 games out of 32 games is not acceptable. Even if its only 1 or 2 more games before the season ends you do it.
Now this brings me into the 2017 first round picks and why I don't want to draft a QB in the first like many others have. We already drafted 2 projects and look how they're turning out. Do you guys really have faith in Fox and Co to develop our future QB? I know I don't...

All good points in your post. Regarding this particular point (drafting a QB) that is also a good point. It's probably a bit too early, for me anyway, to make up my mind about Pace and his drafting. At least not a final judgment. He's had 2 drafts. It's still the first half of Pace's second season here. I also figure that even the best GMs are going to miss on some players. For me anyway, it comes down to the overall quality of their drafting over time. It feels early to me, in regards to Pace's tenure here.
Regarding drafting a QB, I realize there probably isn't a perfect answer that is risk free. There are different ways they can go with, regarding a plan for the post-Cutler era. There is some risk to all of those ways. Drafting a QB is certainly risky, but I'd like to see them take that risk. At least try. Us fans will probably crucify them if they whiff on a QB in the draft. But still, I want to see them at least try.
All of us understand the history of failure with this franchise drafting a good QB. But the past doesn't necessarily have to define our future. I really (personally) don't care to even think about the past failures. It's done. I can't change it. I do hope for a better future. We'll see if Pace can be a reasonably decent GM who can get us a good player to eventually replace Cutler.
What I don't want to see happen, is a similar scenario to how the Bears handled the post-Urlacher transition. I thought they could have handled that much better.
I like being pro-active. I don't like waiting until a crisis hits us unprepared. What is the exit plan here regarding Cutler leaving? They surely have one. I've gotta believe they do. It will eventually be revealed to the fans. Should be interesting.
My comments probably come as much from frustration with the whole mess and the wonder of whose really running the train at Halas Hall and who only gets to blow the whistle.
Pace seemed to me like a man with a plan when he arrived and Fox strikes me as a HC without one. It's always been kinda blah, blah this and blah, blah that and next man up and blah, blah again. What I'd like to know is whose really running the show on draft weekend.
Fox's lack of focus and direction at times strike me as a guy willing to make due and since he on year two of a four year deal he's not the guy I want having much influence in future drafts because I don't believe many of those we do draft will be playing for him very long and certainly not in the selection of a QB.
