Pace was trying to draft impact fb players , and he took the 2 best athletes at their positions , so I can't really argue with the logic that was behind each selection . The best athletes usually rise to the top so I still have plenty of hope - 1 has been snakebit w injuries and 1 will take some time to develop , but as long as they're good when the 'team' gets good then it'll be all good .
That's my hope too.
And it's all that matters in the end . Who could have predicted White's injuries ? Nobody . Floyd isn't a 'great' fb player 4 games into his 1st pro season and people are already using the word bust - really ridiculous and really tiresome . Some things just take time .
That's because we won meaningless games. I've said it before and I'll say it again. If we ain't making the playoffs ( A for sure out ) its time to tank to get that draft pick. We ain't talented enough as a team to do otherwise.
Imagine if we didn't beat the Bucs? We would of been in the top 10 without trading up. We could of then traded up and got better players without costing us too many picks. Honestly I wouldn't mind having Buckner or Stanley
Imagine if we didn't give the Jets Brandon Marshall. Olds are they would of drafted Kevin White instead and we could of got Williams.
Yet you have some here saying we should win meaningless games again and continue this mediocrity we've had for a decade+ now?
You are preaching to the choir my friend. And every time I try to explain that the goal is to win for a long time and the best way to do that is the best coaches and the best players, people keep going off about throwing games. I don;t think you throw games. I think you develop the young players. Quite frankly, if you look closely at this year you can see that no playoffs are going to happen. In that case, you go for what will make you better long term. A high pick. You do that by playing young players to develop. Here is where it gets hinky. Fox did that. He did what I was hoping he would do and play young players. We won anyway. He would have had to throw the game to lose and will not ever see that as as a real option even if it means the top pick. So sometimes you end up winning despite yourself.
Now, if I am wrong and the season takes off, I am going to be pissed about losing the first few games. If it goes like I think it will, I will be pissed about beating Detroit. If you are not going to the playoffs, do what it takes to get you there next year.
I don't advocate losing or tanking most of the time but if the product on the field just happens to be void of enough talent to wind up in the top 10 (not sure about top 5) I won't lose sleep over it. Is there reason to worry about the last 2 year's top picks? Sure but I have seen enough of Pace's 2nd round and below picks to comfortably say they have some talent in the scouting department. I also agree picking in the top 10 2 years in a row should have netted us 2 day 1 starters ready to go, but that hasn't happened. I also am having trouble seeing Floyd develop into that monster edge rusher and honestly don't think he will be a solid contributor until late next year or early in his 3rd year (if he develops whatever potential they saw). Hey, the draft is a crapshoot but I would rather go after players that have a higher floor and are safe BPA types.

You should be drafting for now. Not a few years down the road.
1st mistake: Drafting a WR in the top 10 2nd mistake: Giving the Jets Brandon Marshall ( That team was in need of another WR. They would of looked at White much more in the draft if we didn't give them Brandon )
White is 3.5/32 for games played in his career. I'm sorry but that is bust level. ( Yes I'm expecting him to not play again this season )
When it comes to Floyd:
1st mistake: Drafting a guy who wasn't a real pass rusher in college 2nd mistake: Drafting a dude who is undersized and having both Pace and Fox/Fangio talking differently with his weight when playing...
Like to add that people are calling Floyd a bust because the dude doesn't even look average out there. He has been very lack luster in what his job is. If he doesn't bulk up he ain't going to be in the NFL that long.
I don't understand why we're not drafting day one starters? Are we going to pass up Myles Garrett for yet another project and go 0/3 with them?
Since 2000 we only had 2 long term great players:
- Brian Urlacher - Kyle Long
First round picks say a lot about you as a winning franchise. You wonder why this franchise has been a shit hole since our Super Bowl visit? Poor draft choices...
1. who else should we have drafted? 2. He picked what many have had as BPA
3. WAAAAYYYY too early to tell.
1) You trade down. For a team that supposed to be a run first team really doesn't make much sense picking a WR in the first round. 2) Tunsil was much better 3) Not for White but Floyd has a chance to become average which he isn't at the moment.
You can't expect a player with 3.5 games out of 32 will be much in the NFL.

It wasn't a mistake to trade Marshall. It was needed and Marshall is starting his act with the Jets already. That guy is cancer to a rebuilding Team and only good for a contender with leadership and a good Coach. He'd be a perfect fit for the Pats for example.
First round picks don't say lot about you as a Franchise. Finding success in the other rounds does tell more. Good Teams draft good Players in about every round.

Really? I mean Marshall has almost double both White and Jeffery stats last year. Will he do it again this year? Why in the world did we trade him to the Jets? A team that is you know in front of us in the draft and needed a WR? That move could of cost us on a real player.
First round picks say everything. You find the majority of great talent in the top. We wasted 2 picks with no return value.
Good teams don't fail to find talent back to back in the top 10. Are we going to do it again when we're in the top 5? I bet if we get a QB most will be talking about how we wasted yet another pick.

you talk about a wasted pick... good Teams are build from every round, not only the 1st. That Shows a good Team. Always has and always will. If we draft a QB, it's because we fucking Need a Quality one and in this years draft are 2 I really think will make it with 2 other that have flaws.
Marshall was a good riddance and maybe the Jets were willing to take him and offered the most? I don't care about his stats with the Jets, he is gone for over a year now and many aren't over it.
This team is a disaster at drafting in the first round. It should be mandatory that we trade way our first round pick every year. To think the horror of comming out of college a star, getting drafted by the Bears in the first round and realizing that you NFL career is already over. Very sad.

You can turn that logic around. They obviously wanted to get rid of BMarsh and with Alshon injuries they wanted to pick one of the 2 best wr's in the class. How to improve your chances? Trade BMarsh to one of the teams in front of you in the draft.
