Buccaneers resort to giving tickets away for free after 8-year low in attendance Jack Baer, Yahoo Sports - November 29, 2018
Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans received a rare treat Sunday during a game against the San Francisco 49ers: the team’s second win in two months. Unfortunately, not many fans were around to witness it. Per Greg Auman of The Athletic, the Buccaneers’ attendance of 40,682 was the team’s lowest mark for any home game since a November 2010 game against the Carolina Panthers. Per the Tampa Bay Times, the Buccaneers rank third-worst in the NFL in average attendance, sitting behind only the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Chargers, who play in a soccer stadium.
In all fairness, a family a fou doesn't want to pay a s**t load of money to see their home teams in they are crap.
I don't want to pay a shitload if my team is playing great!
Guess I'm cheap like that, but I've never seen a live football game that I enjoyed as much as on TV. I like the announcers/the replays the pause button, the comfort, the cheap beer/food.
I've been to big college games and pro pre season games and it all felt small and slow to me compared to watching it on the tele.

Plus you don't have to drive to and from the game.

Ya I've heard people say in Chicago that adds like 4 hours to the game. So it's at least an 8 hour day.

Right now for all the major sports, attendance doesn't matter. They're making truck loads of money from TV contracts, streaming rights, partnerships, etc. I am convinced every single sports team would still be profitable if they played every game in an empty stadium.
I do appreciate those that go to the game and make noise. I'll never be that person. The commercial breaks in NFL games results in a ton of down time. The last game I went to was at the Metrodome and boy was that place a shit hole to watch games. I'd much rather enjoy the convenience of being on my own couch, and drink the reasonably priced beer in my fridge. If the game sucks, I can turn it off and enjoy my day doing something else.
Reading this makes me sad. The gameday atmosphere, especially for college games, is one of my favorite things on earth. There's not much I like better than tailgating with some friends, hanging out and talking football or whatever, then going in to cheer on my team. The live entertainment is so much better than the television package, the spectacle of it all, the pageantry of the marching bands and the dancers, 90+k people yelling their lungs out, even during down years. (60k for the Bears, size doesn't always matter..) It is special.
Yes, I can do most of the same things like tailgating at my own house, and I do... often. Mostly because I don't live near my favorite teams anymore. (have never lived in, around, or near Chicago actually...so there's that)But I still love to get to the games when I can. I drove to the AZ game this year, and went to a home game at Auburn this fall. Next season we have plans to go to Chicago for one home game, and the Auburn/Oregon opener in Jerry world in August.

There's a big difference between NFL atmosphere and college atmosphere for sure. I live in Austin, TX and tailgating/attending a UT Longhorns game is a lot of fun. The NFL feels more... corporate, I guess.

I think big time college gets a bit much for me. I've been to a number of FBS and Div 2 games and I find them a lot more appealing.
We'll have to chat next fall as I am the resident Big 12 fan here. Originally from Waco Texas and have always rooted for my "other" Bears team.
