Hoyer needs to put up points more then numbers in the next game(I think he'll play next week since Cutty couldn't even start throwing last week).
But it needs to continue to happen, whoever is playing QB needs to show they can sustain drives and score points to boot.
The O definitely needs to score more. In fairness, Barth should have made that FG and the Bears f'd up another scoring opportunity by flubbing a 4th & 1 in enemy territory for the 2nd time this season.
see, I don't think Barth should have made that FG. He is known to have a bad record at 50 yrds. To expect him to be something he is not is just letting yourself in for a letdown. He is not good at long kicks.

Earned another start? What the hell? It should be Hoyer's performance will allow the coaching staff to not rush Jay Cutler back on the field too soon. That the backup QB level of play is adequate enough to allow the medical staff to adhere to their timetable for Cutler to return healthy.

Anymore there are high school kickers who can make 50 yard kicks. Where do the Bears find these gems?

Bears should cut Barth, bring in the next to see if it works. They should draft a kicker in the 6th or 7th this year.
Just having this QB talk all over again is bad for the Team. Ideally, we have a good QB that puts up Points while securing the ball... until we have that QB, we dream about what could have been keeping Orton and the picks or if Cutler ever has help and Coaching or whatever.
Don't think that I think Hoyer is any good, it's just that if you aren't going to be good, you cannot be mistake prone also; see Fitzpatrick. Cutler is better, but he's still not good enough to make the mistakes he does. This is likely going to be a week to week thing. I just saw an article on FB stated Fox said Hoyer could start over a healthy Cutler so my guess is he is thinking the way you are; if he continues to play mistake free complimentary football he'll continue to start.
I agree its tough to bench a guy who just put up a 120 QBR. The next 2 weeks will be interesting since we face 2 garbage teams with poor defenses. Whoever plays should look good in those games. Note I said "should".
I'd like to see Cutler put up big numbers just for future trade value as I assume this is his last season here. If its Hoyer in the starting role as the "hot hand", the real tests will be the 2 games after that (GB & Minny) where he won't be facing softball defenses. I suspect the Hoyer-train will come off the rails then.
They benched McCown after a game in the 140's against Dallas when he threw 4 touchdowns and ran one in.
It's level of ability. Hoyer is a spare tire but can get you to a repair shop. Cutler is a racing tire that continually goes flat. You can't win the Indy 500 on either kind of tire.

There should be no "QB controversy" at all. Hoyer played about as well as you could play for a noodle-armed backup. He followed the plan, spread the ball around well, and most importantly didn't make any major mistakes. Let's also remember he benefitted immensely from much improved OL play which gave him a solid running game and lots of time to throw most plays. Cutler is still by far the best chance to win when he's healthy though. I'd bet Cutler would have put up 31 points on that team yesterday in the same conditions.
My thought was that he would have found a way to lose that game. Maybe that's plain wrong thinking, but I'll be honest, that was my thought after the game yesterday. He would have coughed up the key fumble or thrown a few ints to seal the deal as he has so many times in the past.
The problem is that many times he is able to do both. Play well, put points on the board and then a few TOs or fumbles or bad decisions and he manages to lose the game. Of course some times he does all that stuff without scoring all the points, but I have seen him do both. He's kinda flexible and finds a way to lose in whatever way the circumstances dictate.
Of those 34 games with TD and without INT's, does he have any fumbles lost?
most likely. Profootball ref lists the INT and FL on different tables. I used the game log option on Cutler's page. You would have to go box score by box score to find fumbles. They need to list TO (INT + Fmble-lost) as a seperate column. link to page
