Joel Iyiegbuniwe might be the most interesting Chicago Bears rookie from the 2018 NFL Draft.

Beyond just the difficult-to-pronounce last name, the fourth-round pick was one of the team’s most surprising choices after taking Roquan Smith in the Top 10.

He wants to become a doctor when he’s done with football, and the raw prospect wasn’t overly productive during his college career.

And yet, general manager Ryan Pace was particularly enamored with Iyiegbuniwe, and the second installment of this year’s “Meet the Rookies” mini-documentary series might help you see why.

“He does flip the switch,” his college coach Mike Sanford Jr. said in the video. “He’s a guy that is a gentleman off the field and a trained killer on the field, and that’s a good thing.”

Iyiegbuniwe’s future on the field still has a lot of question marks, but he’s easy to like as a person — and a future doctor — off of it.

I think in that sense he's very much like Sam Acho in that he'll do whatever he can do to help us win.

It's his size and athletic skills where they differ. At 6'3"/260 Acho is more a prototype 3-4 OLB or 4-3 DE. He reminds me a lot of Alex Brown who did play as a 4-3 DE and IMHO was a similar player and personality. Alex was very well liked too.

Iggy is more of a modern prototype of a 3-4 ILB or hybrid SS/OLB. He's 6'1"/230lbs and he runs a 4.6/40. That's Brian Urlacher as a rookie kind of speed and range. Much like Roquan Smith he's a heat seeking missile type of LB.

It's just a hunch on my part but I believe Anthony Miller and Iggy may well be two of our best draft picks of the Pace era.
