5 Best Ryan Pace Draft Picks

Who are the top five draft picks of the Ryan Pace era?
Ryan Pace was hired in January of 2015, becoming the 6th GM the franchise has ever had. Pace has had his ups and downs. When he was first hired I loved the move, but then Pace decided to hire John Fox and we all know how that turned out.
However, after the signing of Fox, especially in the 2018 offseason, it doesn’t look like Pace made a bad decision. His plan for the Bears has become clear heading into the 2018-19 season. Until this past year free agency is where Ryan Pace has made the most questionable decisions with his time on the Bears.
Even with that in mind, Ryan Pace has been the king of the draft! Of course, every team has their misses but when Pace does miss on a pick, he seems to find a diamond in the rough during a later round of that same draft. This time next year I expect Roquan Smith to be on this list and I can’t wait to watch him this upcoming season.
I really thought the Bears were going to make a move for another safety this offseason and maybe move Amos into a hybrid safety/linebacker role. Especially with all the hard hits he produces running up to fill a gap, along with being a sure tackler in the process.
Amos is phenomenal against the run and at being an inbox safety. His coverage ability needs some improvement which we did seem to see some of towards the end of the year. Having Eddie Jackson back there with him helps, since Jackson picks up some of the slack from Amos in coverage.
Because of injuries, the Bears have had a carousel of offensive linemen rotating in and out of the lineup. But since he’s been in the league, Cody Whitehair seemed to be the only constant name starting every week for the interior group of linemen.
While his snaps from center would sometimes become inconsistent, his blocking and leadership never have. As for all positions in the NFL, being able to stay healthy is key. Whitehair has, while it feels like Kyle Long hasn’t been able to play back to back games in a couple years.
But now with a new coaching staff and new strength and conditioning coordinator Long won’t be rushed back and when he finally gets healthy enough to be in the starting lineup he should stay there. With a healthy Long and new rookie James Daniels the interior of this new look Bears offense should be nasty, and no one is happier about that than Jordan Howard and Mitchell Trubisky.
The star Alabama safety and possibly the first playmaking safety the Chicago Bears will have since Mike Brown. We saw glimpses of Jackson’s ability throughout his rookie year, most notably the Carolina Panthers game. The ball just seems to find Jackson, or more importantly, he always seems to find the ball.
The combination of Amos and Jackson can be a deadly force in the NFL for years to come if they continue to progress and improve in Fangio’s scheme. Where Eddie lacks in tackling and run support, Amos makes up for, where Amos lacks in the passing game and coverage, Jackson makes up for. This tandem has a chance to be really special.
The man is a beast. Simple as that. What he has done these past two seasons with no passing game and having to run against 8 man boxes almost every play is incredible. He should have a career year coming up since the Bears are an actual threat to throw the ball on another down other than 3rd.
I was relieved to hear that the rumors about Howard getting traded were just that. He does need to learn how to become a more reliable receiving threat from the backfield so he can be fully utilized in Nagy’s system.
Cohen will be all over the field and be the primary receiving back but a little more consistency out of Howard will go a long way for this offense. Howard also seemed to be dinged up the entire year, so hopefully he along with Long can become 100% and ready to dominate some football games this year. I could easily argue Howard being 1 on this list.
I’m sure it’s not a surprise to see Trubisky as the #1 pick on this list. I have him here solely on potential and what I think he will become, which we all saw from even his first preseason game last year. He immediately looked like the best QB on the roster (which wasn’t exactly hard to do).
At times last year he really looked like a superstar in the making and every Chicago fan will agree that’s something the Bears have never had before at the quarterback position. He, along with Howard were crippled by the offense last year. It’s very hard to be effective when the defense, along with everyone watching the game, knows what plays are being called before they are being run.
Even with that being said, Howard and Trubisky shined most of the year. Now with an offensive minded HC and A LOT of new and vastly improved weapons on offense, this should be a very exciting season for the Chicago Bears and Trubisky.

5: Adrian Amos
I really thought the Bears were going to make a move for another safety this offseason and maybe move Amos into a hybrid safety/linebacker role. Especially with all the hard hits he produces running up to fill a gap, along with being a sure tackler in the process.
Amos is phenomenal against the run and at being an inbox safety. His coverage ability needs some improvement which we did seem to see some of towards the end of the year. Having Eddie Jackson back there with him helps, since Jackson picks up some of the slack from Amos in coverage.
Pro Football Focus graded Adrian Amos as the second best safety in the league last year. Now adding another year of experience under his belt, along with more continuity in the same defensive system with the same DC and numerous returning starters we should see an even better Amos this year.
4: Cody Whitehair
Because of injuries, the Bears have had a carousel of offensive linemen rotating in and out of the lineup. But since he’s been in the league, Cody Whitehair seemed to be the only constant name starting every week for the interior group of linemen.
While his snaps from center would sometimes become inconsistent, his blocking and leadership never have. As for all positions in the NFL, being able to stay healthy is key. Whitehair has, while it feels like Kyle Long hasn’t been able to play back to back games in a couple years.

3: Eddie Jackson
The star Alabama safety and possibly the first playmaking safety the Chicago Bears will have since Mike Brown. 2: Jordan Howard
The man is a beast. Simple as that. What he has done these past two seasons with no passing game and having to run against 8 man boxes almost every play is incredible. He should have a career year coming up since the Bears are an actual threat to throw the ball on another down other than 3rd.

1: Mitchell Trubisky
I’m sure it’s not a surprise to see Trubisky as the #1 pick on this list. I have him here solely on potential and what I think he will become, which we all saw from even his first preseason game last year. He immediately looked like the best QB on the roster (which wasn’t exactly hard to do).
