Bears Make A Classy Move, Sign Zach Miller To 1 Year Deal...

Absolutely an awesome move by the Bears. I can’t see them having done this in the past. This organization seems to be doing all the right things right now, when just a few years ago it felt like they were doing everything wrong. Nice job Bears!!



The football career of Bears tight end Zach Miller likely ended last season, when he suffered a serious knee injury against the Saints. Even thought it’s doubtful that Miller will ever play again, the Bears have brought him back for 2018.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Bears have re-signed Miller to a one-year deal.

Miller, 33, joined the Bears in 2015. Under the so-called “split” contract with the Bears, he’ll earn $458,000 for 2018, whether he plays or not.

If he somehow is able to play, he would make $790,000 in 2018.

It’s a class move by the Bears, who otherwise wouldn’t have owed Miller a dime, since his contract expired after the 2017 season. And it sends a message to the locker room that the Bears don’t automatically regard players as nameless, faceless, fungible commodities who come and go on a constant basis, and who get nothing more than what the CBA entitles them to.

It is an amazingly good gesture by the Bears.  It also makes a good statement about the franchise and how they treat their players.  You never know how something like this might help sign or re-sign a player down the road.  We had a situation in recent years where players took less money to play for another team, rather than play for the Bears.  Now I "get it" that money is usually #1.  But if the money is fairly close in a future situation, then maybe, just maybe, it could tilt the scales in our favor and we sign that guy.  But who knows... it is just a good thing the Bears did here, even if it has zero future impact on players.  You do the right things in life because they ARE the right things.  JMO.

Looks like there will be some sort of media event on this tomorrow at Halas Hall.

Incredible move by our team. This HAS to be influenced by Nagy. Can you imagine the wave that this will bring to all potential FA's in years to come. Not only is the team going to be competitive, but it also cares for their players and their Families.

Makes you wonder if Nagy see's the value of having a player like Zach, around the younger player's. Zach has been said to be a mentor so maybe they see him as a potential future positional coach.
