we are in a rebuild, have a whole new Team and it takes time to build that Team chemistry, leadership and trust. Getting rid of the old culture is all good and fine.
Forte would easily be our best RB this year, but he'd give us 1-2 Ws we don't Need. I'm sick of all this mediocre 6-10 to 9-7 seasons. Get rid of the older skilled Players that won't do much when your new picks and Talent is ready - to get that Talent. We Need to start losing more games, this season won't be a success. Lose games, get a new Coaching staff - ideally a OC/ST Headcoach with Fangio staying and having the say of the D - and get a Top3 pick. Not to mention that you can have a great Young Talent, you will be picking early in the other rounds too. That 2nd round pick would be Close to a late 1st and imagine we'd get 2 first round prospects out of this draft? A Pass Rusher and a QB with secondary added in the later rounds.
We're doing just fine with Slauson replacement and Bennett's replacement.
We have Whitehair an up and coming rookie who seems to be getting better with time. We also got Sitton a guy who is an all pro Guard. Again why do we even talk about Slauson? Him here or not wouldn't fix the problem we have and that's Massie...
Miller is still out there doing his thing when it comes to being a receiving TE. I don't see how Bennett would be doing it better after the fact of what we saw last year with him getting outplayed by Miller.
The only person Fox F***ed up on was Forte. We had the cap space and he wanted to stay. We needed his play while he didn't really need us. We have no real replacement in plan when we let him go. Honestly it looked like Fox panic and tried to sign Anderson here. Anderson wanted nothing to do with this team. He says its not about the money yet signs the same contract we offered him but to the Broncos. Not many great players are going to want to be on a team like this. To be honest I was surprised we got a deal done with Freeman and Trevathan.
Then during the offseason there was tons of hints that Pace and Co wanted to go after Elliot. Surprise surprise its yet another position we have to replace because of Fox but it didn't work out so well. We drafted Floyd instead and for some strange reason I have a feeling Floyd is going to end up replacing Mcphee soon. That's of course if he gets hurt again or doesn't play the same when he comes back.
Marty vs Miller: Pass catching we'll call them equal, Marty's done more longer but Miller was hurt so I'll give you equal. Marty is the better blocker, capable of being asked to single block Chandler Jones, Miller isn't a fraction of Marty on that role. That makes Miller an overall less capable TE as he's only 1/2 of what the position calls for. I also don't agree he's faster or more athletic I think that's highly debatable. There might have been locker room issues, but none that were ever said other then the coaches didn't like him asking for more money.
Slauson: Go look at SD's OL, they are doing just fine w/Slauson starting at OC. He was the best OL on the line for this team(when Long wasn't at OG) and he was let go to pave the way for another set of draft picks to start w/out earning the job, there's the issue. Larsen and the retired dude were brought it b/c they couldn't compete w/the picks. If you don't think a set of players know who the best players are and aren't going to be effected watching them leave/lose their jobs to guys that haven't earned/don't deserve the jobs you are wrong. Sitton is a huge upgrade over Slauson no doubt, but Whitehair is a downgrade(right now) over him at OC. If Slauson was here right now, and Long was struggling like he is, there is a better then 50-50 shot they'd be looking at Whitehair or Slauson at RG.
Last year Fox let Forte know he wasn't coming back no matter what he did, hence his "put on good film" comment to him. Fox was convinced that Langford/Carey/whoever was going to be able to do the job, and he was dead wrong. I agree from everything being reported this years team was all about Fox and Pace was pushed even more off to the side, so if Fox had wanted Forte he could have had him, and he chose, poorly. Forte had a way of knowing how to get yards out of nothing, until the Def KNEW he was getting the ball.
Again if you are now happy this all went down so we can get a higher draft pick, fine, but this previous offseason no one was talking about how this team was set up to fail and get a top 5 pick. So maybe it all did work out in the end, but i'm not 100% sure that was ever the teams plan.
I would never agree with that approach or not unless they gave all ten top picks. I mean everyone has their price right? I don't play to lose and I have no respect for those who do. IMHO Marty isn't a loss nor is Slauson. Both have been adequately replaced. Forte however has not been yet you weep for the first two more than than third? We evaluate things very differently you and I so we should never ever be on the same team. LOL
IMHO Marty's blocking is easily replaced by another TE or even an OT when that's called for. TE's are major pass catchers again now not Martz like small OTs. More teams are using two different types of TEs (a move TE and an inline TE) than they are a single all around TE. Besides Zach Miller is also an adequate blocker. Since we weren't buying the past, only the future, what Zach or Marty did prior to last year was all I needed to see. Miller will be where you expect him when you expect. He's a far more dependable route runner than Marty, gets YAC, and doesn't take plays off or lose focus. If I'm drafting my team I'll take him over Marty.
When Long is grading out even higher than Sitton or Whitehair I think that struggling thing is in your imagination somewhere as a must due to his injury. The numbers say he's not and neither do the vids I've seen or plays I've watched. None of them are grading at 100% and they all blow plays from time to time but he's still the highest graded OL on the team. I like Matt Slauson but he's also been replaced with a rookie who even if not quite as good at this rate with become another Andy Fredrick soon and be far better for far longer than Matt S. So you can have him and I'll draft Whitehair.
Fox ****ed up on Forte.....yes. See we can agree on at least something here!
You CAN replace the blocking w/a blocking TE or OT, but you also just signaled to the def what you are doing by taking your WR....errrrr...TE out of the game to put them in. That's why Marty was important, he could do both and that made it hard for the def to know WHAT you were going to do on a given play. Same w/Forte.
As for long grading out higher or lower, again it's PFF and well there grades are laughable and I have never, and will never put a lot of weight into them b/c these are the same people that said Shea was the best pass rusher the Bears had his rookie year(not true) and that Webb was a better OT then Bushrod(not true). Their line grades by their very nature are incorrect b/c they do not take into consideration scheme, if you don't take into consideration WHAT the lines are trying to do then you cannot accurately grade them.
I really like Slauson, and I believe he was our best OLiner last few years, but he wouldn NOT be starting at this point, Sitton-Whitehair-Long would be (again) it. One is huge FA, second is a pick (and with Floyd and White situations they need them in) and the third one is pretty much face of the franchise. They would never ever sit Long if hes not missing a leg, at least
Again I'm not sure you can make that claim. Right now Slauson is also one of the best OC's in the league, and was always one of the better OG's, if he's on the team, Long might well be resting that shoulder instead of trying to play through it. He's out there, Whithair is out there b/c Larsen cannot be; that's not the case w/Slauson. Again, IF you take a lot into PFF(which people seem to do here) then you have to take into account that Slauson was rated the highest OC one of the first 3 weeks. Actually from what little research I can tell, Slau has graded out higher at OC each week then Whitehair.
And quite frankly, how is the OL grading out so high when this team cannot run? And up until this week has been getting eaten alive in pass protection(dallas is like chicago and has no pass rushers); it's not just massie and leno giving up sacks and pressures, so again this week the grades kind of line up, but the first 2 weeks I haven't really agreed to much.
