Chicago Bears are Putting All Hope on Mitchell Trubisky

Despite all the great decisions made by general manager Ryan Pace, the Chicago Bears are in an all-or-nothing state going into the 2018 NFL season. The main issue affecting the outcome for the Bears next season is how much quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has improved during this offseason.
Trubisky has been hard at work since the season ended working closely with the coaching staff to improve on various parts of the game. He has also spent time in California training with Jared Goff, the 2017 Most Improved Player. Goff had a phenomenal turn around from his rookie year to his sophomore year. Goff has become a very smart and efficient quarterback. After all this training, Trubisky, hopefully, has come back with the same skills.
Trubisky only played in 5 games during the 2017-2018 NFL season. Throughout these games, his play style was very inconsistent. He had a completion percentage of 59.4% with 7 interceptions and 5 fumbles. He had a quarterback rating of 28.5 which is measured on a scale of 0-100. However, these terrible statistics do not do justice to his true playing style and the situation he was in. In the 2017 season, the offensive line for the Bears was not the best. The receiver core was second rate and injured for the most part. Trubisky had very little to work with on the field along with the poor coaching of John Fox. Trubisky had many amazing plays during the season that showed that he was up to the role of starting quarterback, but had enough bad statistics to have his ability be questioned. Based on all this, Trubisky is a going to be an interesting player to watch this coming season as he could make or break the Bears.
During this offseason, the Bears have given Trubisky a new head coach in Matt Nagy. Nagy has a system set up for Trubisky to succeed and will improve Trubisky’s game as he did with Alex Smith. The Bears have also given him strong receivers in Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, and Anthony Miller. He has gotten a great tight end in Trey Burton also. Trubisky has a stronger offensive line with James Daniels at center and Kyle Long at guard. Trubisky has been given a team that any truly talented quarterback can succeed with.
There is an underlying factor here that will rest on Trubisky’s shoulders going into this offseason. The Bears have trusted Mitchell Trubisky as their franchise quarterback ever since they moved up one spot to draft him. They have built him the team he needs. If Trubisky fails and cannot deliver the Bears the great play that is expected of him, then there is no backup plan. The backup quarterbacks are Chase Daniel and Tyler Bray. These are two players that have experience. Daniel has been a backup to Drew Brees and played a good amount of snaps in his career too. Daniel is expected to mentor Trubisky, but much isn’t expected from him if Trubisky gets injured this upcoming season.
The Chicago Bears are putting all their hope on Mitchell Trubisky for the 2018 NFL season. Can he rise to the challenge?
