This makes me wonder if they are trying to fly one of them under the radar so they can stash him on the practice squad. If there isn't much exposure or film for other teams to look at they may just pull it off.
It's possible, they had to put Fales on the roster last year b/c SF and Balt both looked at taking him. Maybe they think if there is no exposure during PS they can sneak him back on PS and keep him there this year.

I kept reading that Paces was trying to move up on the 4th last May to get Cook but the raiders did a last minute move and jumped in front of us and messed that up. If they had not maybe we would have taken Cook in the 4th this year.
I sure hope Pace starts taking QBs earlier next year.

Well at least we have hope that he was trying. Cook was a steal in the 4th btw. 7/11 71 yards 0 td 0 ints, in game 1, 6/9 101 yards 1 int. 1st round worthy, no but solid start for a 4th round backup. Ya, not to bad; that's 15/20 for 172 yards at 8.6 ypa. He needs to get better, td's and no int's, but that 8.6 mark is where you want your qb to be.
Dak has been even better though, and this is where the Bears really muffed. He should have been an option over Nick who was a reach; that was an out of nowhere pick. PS1 10/12 139 2td's 0 ints. PS2 12/15 199 2td's 0 ints. That's 22/27 338 yards 4td's at over 12ypa. Ya it's pre season, and most of this is likely vs scrubs, but the beggining is very good and better then anything the Bears 4th round players have done. He is showing potential to be a backup quickly and a potential starter down the road(if he gets better and works on his craft).

I was looking at QBs hard leading up to the draft. I didn't watch a lot of games with Prescott but I did look at a bunch of his videos on YouTube and he was really hod and cold IMO.
Here is the "Weaknesses" on Prescott from the NFL draft site ...
WEAKNESSES Beat up this year thanks to poor protection. When he wasn't being sacked, he was being hit hard. Not as competitive a rusher in 2015. Sacks and usage in run game might be taking a toll. Increase in short pass attempts from 86 to 208 this year reason for higher completion numbers. Accuracy on intermediate and deep throws dropped sharply. Pocket poise has been compromised. Hyper aware of pressure around him and lacks awareness to slide and find temporary shelter to make throw. Concern over pressure too often trumps ability to get through progressions. Must speed up the pace of his reads. Footwork is a mess. Slight stride onto stiff upper leg with little weight shift. Restricted follow through and too often tries to muscle throws with upper body. Throws to target rather than leading or throwing them open on short/intermediate throws. Too respectful of underneath coverage and must be more willing to challenge the defense. Needs to improve anticipation.
If you look at his videos on YouTube, you will see the highlighted sections in them. I can see why teams took a pass on Prescott. Now in hindsight that could be a mistake, but if we all had the benefit of 20-20 hindsight, none of us would ever make a mistake!

I guess my thing is, if your review shows that the OL is terrible, then you have to take everything that is happening to the qb, or rb, or anyone else on O, w/a huge grain of salt. That's why he was a great mid/late round pick, b/c he has shown previously to be really good, but the OL forced a pause, or n/a, grade on him. If you know a QB is good when the OL isn't trash, and you believe in your OL you should have no issue w/drafting said qb. I actually liked a lot of what I read on Dak in the offseason as a mid/late round possible backup qb. Now he's showing he has potential(that's a 4 letter word btw) to be possibly be more. Jones, and imo even more his kid, have really had good drafts recently. If that team goes to his son I think they will be a team to be reckoned w/for years to come. The kid seems better then his dad.

I was also looking at Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel. My sleeper favorite ended up being Driskel. If you cruise a couple of the 49er fan boards you will see that Chip Kelly really liked Driskel and thinks he got a steal with him in the 6th round.
Don't know much about Driskel, but I heard some Brisket talk the other day and it sounded pretty positive.
I've said this the last few years and no one seemed to listen, but b/c the NFL has made the league so O friendly, they have also made it more QB friendly and you can now get qb's later in the draft(3-4th). They might not be elite, maybe only backup quality, but it's better then overpaying for a failed starter that is now supposed to be a great "backup".
The problem w/that idea is that every backup qb's job is to be the starter if the starter gets hurt. Well if they failed at being a starter for another team, how are they going to not fail at being a potential starter for the next team if the starter goes down? It's the oximoron of the backup qb position. Again the only time to have a vet is when you have a young starter that could use the mentorship.
