This statement from the Chicago Tribune stood out to me: -That Miller is one of six new pass catchers the Bears have added since March — a group that also includes Allen Robinson, Trey Burton, Taylor Gabriel, Bennie Fowler and Javon Wims — feels significant. Suddenly, the days of Mitch Trubisky slinging passes to Josh Bellamy and Markus Wheaton seem like a distant memory.- Man did our offense suck last year. Peyton Manning couldn't have succeeded in that black hole.
Exactly, Wright was by far the best of them, and Inman wasn't very good but at least the def's had to give him a little attention. Glad that is no longer an issue. This group might be deeper then when they had Marshal/Jeffery; even if the top isn't as good(yet). O looks really dangerous for the first time since Trestmans first year; and it looks to be sustainable, as you don't appear to have any "problem children".
The Def still feels incomplete and lacking depth, but mostly at edge. Glad that it feels like we won't have to see Timu or Anderson as starters this year. This years edge class was just sad and pathetic, and the Bears mostly passed on it, so did most teams so I'm fine w/that. Pace said he's not done yet, he'll churn the roster somemore w/possibilities of trades, so I'm hoping that the edge rusher depth isn't completed yet.
Yeah I agree the D is still a WIP. There is really no edge rusher left in FA who would make a dent and would probably only serve as depth.

Houston would be a good signing right now, he looked solid for us at the end of last year.
Well when you take into account the average football intelligence of many NFL owners most anything can happen. Fox will keep politically probing for another HC job. You know he's embarrassed about going out as such a loser which is why he's trying to salvage some pride by taking some credit now in case the Bears so turn it around this year.
I was talking to a coach who is somewhat of a mentor for me. He's an absolute genius. Anyway, he was meeting with owners and GM's from several teams in various sports because he does consulting work, and he said to me "you can't believe what morons these guys are". LOL...I said...no...I believe it.
When I did my consulting gig, I had a lot of meetings with middle/upper management of some very big name businesses. You'd be surprised how clueless some of them are too.

The old football guy owners like Halas are long gone having been replaced by their grandkids or we have owners of other corporation to which their teams are; A) an expensive hobby, B) a constantly appreciating investment, and C) a huge tax shelter for other income.
Many couldn't run a profitable hot dog stand without help from lenders and consultants. They need good football people to operate their teams for them. When they have them they win games and when they don't they lose games but still make a ton of profit so some simply don't care about doing more than going through the motions of trying to win.
For years Mikey McCaskey was part of those just going through the motions. I feel GMcC is at least making some attempts to change that but both he and Phillips need to get out of Pace's way and stay out of it so we can all find out whether or not he can restore this team to being a consistent winner.

Yeah...he was kind of upset they didn't know or understand more in regards to training and what not. I said "I'm not quite sure why you expected they would", for all the reasons you just pointed out. These guys for the most part know very little about the actual game of football...let alone the physical preparation that goes into it.

Wonder if that will start to change as some athletes start to have enough income to get into ownership groups.

Maybe...depends on the athlete. A lot of these guys don't care why they're doing what they're doing. They just want to be told what to do and get out.
LOL, I started this as a "feel good" thread. Cmon guys. Fox is gone. Let's just be thankful we are in a better place now. That's all that matters now. Like him or hate him, Fox is gone. I'm looking ahead to better years, beginning this season.
i feel good that Fox is gone. he literally made player evaluation impossible as he never played to strengths.

love of the game is what ownership needs to take an interest in the minuta of operations. you want it in your players/ coaches and that's something even the dullest GM seems to know (thanks to Parcells articulating the point). Owners think they are excluded from the rule, but every choice they make reflects their interests. Most of these guys want a piece of the pie. If the NFL stopped profit sharing (something necessary for the survival of the league at one point) you'd get less moving for stadium deals and a more realistic picture of demand for teams in terms of expansion/ new homes.
