I have one thing stuck in my mind, I believe it was exactly a year ago... butkus told us here an inside story and regarding Fox it was - the he pretty much checked out. Management oughta see it too, dont care about 5 mils and fire him. Hopefully it will all turn out ok now.
Thats correct Alex...the guy told me he couldn't even name some of the guys on the roster.
Great way to change the culture. Just greet everyone with Hi Bub! LOL
wow, didn't pick up on that, makes people defending Fox look even worse. Funny thing is, I'm willing to bet he still gets another HC job somewhere.
I do believe some network hired him to be part of their pregame show. That should be a gas. Ha ha
He's already trying to get credit for the Bears future in several quotes I've seen. There are enough old school owners that it only takes one to link 2 SBs, and an improved Bears team to Fox and give him another shot.

Well when you take into account the average football intelligence of many NFL owners most anything can happen. Fox will keep politically probing for another HC job. You know he's embarrassed about going out as such a loser which is why he's trying to salvage some pride by taking some credit now in case the Bears so turn it around this year.
I think the draft was excellent, there is potential among the UDFA's, and Pace may do one more surprise signing among the remaining FA's or soon to be cut players who may be useful this year. We will see.
tl:dr Brasil lets his Irrational Anti-Fox syndrome out for the last time
No way on earth Fox came here simply to adsorb losses and change the culture. Why would he take that job? All it would do was tarnish his rep, and no matter what he was getting paid it wouldn't be worth it. Fox wants to win regardless of how he coaches on game day. His resume is still lacking something, a SB win.
No way McCasky and Phillips hired Fox to only absorb losses and change culture. That would be crippling to a team in a rebuild. Fox was brought in to win games and turn things around.
No way Earnie A called up Fox and told him "Hey, found the perfect situation for you, $5 mill a season and all you need to do lose for a few seasons. Then they'll cut you lose and you can get a TV job!"
Fox got the call about the Bears, looked at the roster and thought he could turn things around. I believe you can draw a direct line from Pace's misfires on draft day and FA directly to Fox. Only when Pace decided to separate himself from Fox did the Bears start doing things differently.
The Fox years go down as 3 wasted years, especially as the Bears are 2-3 years away from being a consistent contender not just a one and done playoff team. 3 wasted years. Blaming Cutler, Trestman, Emery, Angelo, or anyone else for Fox's failures ignores the role Fox played in his own demise.
In no particular order (1) Gould (2) moving on from 'problem' players without having replacement ready (thats not all on Pace) (3) playing to not lose as opposed to playing to win (4) never beating a QB whose first start ever was against the Bears (5) refusing to get his playmakers on the field in the redzone (6) Loggains (7) Loggains (can't be said enough so he's listed twice) (8) challenges
anyone else want to add to the list?
1) Gould deserved to be cut, what he was at that time wasn't worth paying what the Bears were paying for, he even admitted getting cut from the bears gave him the drive to fix the issues he was having. Problem is, as you state below they didn't try and replace him w/anyone that was good. And when that guy didn't work he didn't bring in anyone that ever had a real shot of surplanting him. 2) don't necessarily disagree w/not having the replacments in place, but many teams do that, including the good ones...then again the good ones don't tend to end up w/multiple "problem" children that are allowed to rule the roost. 3) his biggest problem and always has been, it's why he can get a roster full of studs to the playoffs/sb but cannot win it. 4) meh 5) howard was never on the field in the redzone? his problem is he moved on from his playmakers w/out replacments, see 2. 6/7) yep loggains was really a mouth piece for Fox and it was terrible 8) yep, then again Lovie was terrible at them to and he was a good HC.
Not defending Fox, but it wasn't wasted years, you needed to retool the roster and clean up the locker room that was poisoned from vet Def's that didn't want Lovie fired and poisoned from Tresty himself and his unwillingness to throw the hammer down on guys like Marshal. Fox was the demolition guy brought in to blow it up and clean up the mess. He did that, and now he's gone b/c Pace didn't want him to build the new home.
This statement from the Chicago Tribune stood out to me: -That Miller is one of six new pass catchers the Bears have added since March — a group that also includes Allen Robinson, Trey Burton, Taylor Gabriel, Bennie Fowler and Javon Wims — feels significant. Suddenly, the days of Mitch Trubisky slinging passes to Josh Bellamy and Markus Wheaton seem like a distant memory.- Man did our offense suck last year. Peyton Manning couldn't have succeeded in that black hole.

Exactly, Wright was by far the best of them, and Inman wasn't very good but at least the def's had to give him a little attention. Glad that is no longer an issue. This group might be deeper then when they had Marshal/Jeffery; even if the top isn't as good(yet). O looks really dangerous for the first time since Trestmans first year; and it looks to be sustainable, as you don't appear to have any "problem children".
The Def still feels incomplete and lacking depth, but mostly at edge. Glad that it feels like we won't have to see Timu or Anderson as starters this year. This years edge class was just sad and pathetic, and the Bears mostly passed on it, so did most teams so I'm fine w/that. Pace said he's not done yet, he'll churn the roster somemore w/possibilities of trades, so I'm hoping that the edge rusher depth isn't completed yet.

I was talking to a coach who is somewhat of a mentor for me. He's an absolute genius. Anyway, he was meeting with owners and GM's from several teams in various sports because he does consulting work, and he said to me "you can't believe what morons these guys are". LOL...I said...no...I believe it.
