Except when Danny T misses his annual 4+ games a year the depth will be nice to have.
Was going to be my next post. We had two NFL ILBs on the roster before the draft, now we have four. I don’t limit guys to ST before they step on the field - no one should. That’s going to be his job for now, but you take guys like him in the fourth who have a lot of promise to become starters.
A couple months ago I said ILB needed as much attention as anything, so I guess that was their thought. The value is on the spot from everything I’ve seen on his stock. Let’s wait and see.
He sounds like a pure STs type of pick. That would be fine in the 7th or even 6th. Little hard to figure in the mid-4th where you still got a shot to find a rotational contributor or even an occasional starter. This guy is our 4th ILB at most. Really tough to justify.
We just upgraded Timu...maybe. That’s it.
Saw on Twitter that the bears felt they needed to replace c jones as a backup ilb but more importantly on sts. Just not sure that needed to happen in the 4th when olb at the very least is as large a need

I can understand that. I really didn’t understand why the team made zero effort to retain Jones. He was solid versatile depth at ILB, OLB, and a core STer. Homegrown talent, non-injured, and only 25yo.
I get why Unrein and Sitton were allowed to leave. I can even understand the Meredith calculation. But I don’t get why Jones wasn’t a priority to retain.

A strong scouting department makes its bucks on the third day. They've been constructing their board of prospects for months and this is where they start pulling out 'fits,' 'role players' and risks. Happy Pace is making these picks on day three rather than in the first two days.
I trust Fang and Pace in these later rounds. I think they know what they're looking for far more than we do AND they know more about these late rounds prospects than we do too. As was pointed out earlier, not many here had heard of Adam Shaheen or Tarik Cohen or Adrian Amos or Jordan Howard... They've turned out pretty good.

I agree with all that.
Seems like they thought he wouldn’t have much of a market and badly miscalculated. Feels like a big mistake by Pace there.
Kinda drives me crazy to see us create a hole that didn’t need to be created and then having to refill that UDFA hole with a 4th round pick. This, including Meredith to a lesser extent, is the kind of stuff that makes me hate Ryan Pace sometimes. Feels like we chase our tails too much replacinglost talent rather than upgrading existing talent.

Difference is that jones was healthy and our def scheme hasn't changed. He could have continued to grow.
It is what it is though. Again if we say that fang had a say in what we like we cannot say he didn't have a say in what we don't like.
