How About This Guy As A Round Four Edge Rusher?..........

Actually I'm thinking more of a "gadget type" pass rusher somewhere.  A guy whose not a proto-typical OLB but who can come in and get at a QB quickly.  A Dumervil or Freeney or Mathis kind of player but not as versatile so he's dropped way down but can still come in on passing downs and create pressure.

We just passed on him to draft the LB from Western KY some of the gurus are calling another Darius Leonard type.

I think we may be thinking differently than Fangio is as far as how he plans to scheme his pass rush.  With ILBs who can rush and zone blitz that may be part of the plan.  Smith is a focking heat seeking missile if he allows him to blitz.

He may also be looking at who he has already in guys like Irving and Jones thinking they may be as good as anyone we could draft.  Jones had 5 sacks in 5 starts as a rookie at TB and Irving led us in sacks last preseason with 3.  RRH had 2 sacks last year in the last 5 games once he was added to the DE rotation.

Maybe he has different ideas than we do and we aren't as thin as it may seem.

Combined with Pace's comments which tend to indicate their overall dissatisfaction with this years crop of edge guys it's all I can come up with.  If Lynch and Floyd can get or approach 10 sacks each and bring pressure when needed than we can get another 10-12 from guys in a rotation or ILBs coming on zone blitzes it doesn't look so bad.

We also get a much better rush from our DL with Goldman and Hicks than many 3-4 teams get.  If RRH can add some to that and we get 10-12 sacks and pressure up the gut we can probably live with that.  Plus Houston is still hanging around out there looking for a deal.  It's not impossible to think we may bring him back either.

Yep, and "Obi-Wan" just went to the Rams so again we passed on an edge guy for a DL we liked more.

I have a distinct feeling Pace and Fangio don't see much in this bunch we don't already have in a player whose on the roster now.  Are any of these mid round guys really any better than Irving who actually looked good last preseason?  They've had him for a year and had a chance to teach him the defense and even put him on the active roster for 5 games.

We may already have a "sleeper" edge guy in him or possibly in Jones.
