Smith is the Bear's linebacker - screw Edmunds, he's a fricken Bill. Comparing the two players from this point forward is an exercise in futility. Their supporting casts, coaches, schemes, and a million other things are different going forward. Smith is a beast.
Instincts won't save him if the DL fails to keep the OL off him.
Just stop already. This is the same BS we heard about Urlacher when Keith Traylor and Ted Washington left - that URL would be just anothe mlb after that. How did that one turn out? Not saying Smith is the next great Lb but damn man you’re starting to sound like a puckers fan trolling the board!
If you think this sounds like a troll, you have forgotten what trolls sound like. We could let some back in to give you a quick rememberence
Critiques are allowed, not one player is guaranteed stud or bust. We are all allowed to have opinions and varying degrees of how much we all like any given player.
If you think a troll would be complimentary of a pick, well you are sorely mistaken, and if you haven't seen where i have been complimentary of him, either i have done a poor job stating that I like the pick(which I have said) or you have done a poor job reading what I am saying, or a mix of both.
On to round 2, and maybe even round 3 if the team trades back.
Don't get too caught up in his size. Danny Trevathan is only 230, Freeman was 235, Willis was 240 when he was drafted I believe. Reuben Foster was 229, Ryan Shazier was 235, so was CJ Mosely. Myles Jack and Bendarick McKinney were only 245. I'm really not worried about his weight.
My feelings are the same. Smith is 236lbs now. When those college vids were shot he was under 220bs. There were guys here all hepped up about Jaylon Smith and he was 225lb. Ryan Shazier was about the same size as Smith when he was drafted. Trevathan was 237lb and he's about the same now. Kwiatkoski is 242lbs. Navorro Bowman is 242lbs. Patrick Willis was 242lbs. Mike Singletary was 6' and 230lbs for much of his career. 250lb plus ILB are even more rare now.
If we couldn't get Nelson then Smith was my BPA choice. Edmunds may have more upside but only if he learns the game better than he has so far. His athleticism will only carry him so far in the NFL just as it has with Floyd and Floyd was a far more advanced player when he was drafted. Smith is a blue chip plug and play day one starter who'll fill that "Jack" ILB role Freeman played. He can cover like Freeman and he runs a 4.5/40 so Fangio can also use him in the slot and as a blitzer.
This is a pick Pace needed to make count with sure thing zero chance of failure guy. With Nelson and Chubb gone that meant it came down to Smith, Fitz and probably Vea depending on what fit at what position Pace and Nagy preferred. 8. Chicago Bears: Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia
Strengths:Everything associated with being an in-space linebacker.
Weaknesses:He’s an in-space linebacker.
The Bears draft a linebacker, and suddenly all feels right in the world.
Roquan Smith wins this year’s Most Distracting Prospect Award, given to the player who upstages other players on their own tape cut-ups. Try to focus on some SEC offensive prospect so you can break his game down, and whammo! There’s Smith blitzing like a missile, or breaking up a pass in the middle of the field, or evading blockers and meeting the running back at the line of scrimmage on 3rd-and-short. He steals the scene from the star every time he shows up. He’s like all of the characters except Black Panther in Black Panther.
Smith is also one of the safest selections in this draft. Calling a selection "safe" is almost a backhanded compliment, because teams are supposed to be bold and daring and find players with a five percent chance of becoming Lawrence Taylor instead of just getting the experienced, productive, obvious choice.Smith is almost guaranteed to become a productive starter, probably as a rookie, and will probably develop into a perennial Pro Bowler.
Of course, Smith plays a position where talent is plentiful and the difference between an All-Pro and a serviceable starter doesn’t have that much impact on the win-loss column. But overthinking the economics of the draft is a great way to leave gaping holes in the middle of your depth chart. Chicago just got a three-down linebacker with big-play capability who should be a high-level starter for the next decade. Look for Smith to soon start upstaging some of the guys drafted ahead of him on their own highlight reels. This is a fine selection for the sleeper team that no one is talking about.

Really like all of our picks soul, do you? Of course, would pick Chubb over Smith and Fernandez over Daniels (that would've been my dream draft), but they were picked before so its just a fantasy.

I do like the picks Alex. Each fits a need and all were uber productive college players in major programs.
Smith is easily a plug and play "Jack" ILB who can replace Freeman. We missed him last year and Smith is a better version of that type of ILB.
Daniels can play OG or OC and while he may need to add some weight and functional strength to play LG he's a quality pick. Ragnow was my pick for an OG/OC once Nelson was gone but he went #20. Daniels is right behind him IMHO.
Miller is a guy who I think will surprise the doubters. He's a tough nut who knows how to get open and score points. I see a Marty Booker type with more speed and great hands. Perfect #2 and Slot type WR.
