Pace could do a number of things. ( This is including trade backs )
1) Tremaine Edmunds - I feel this is your typical Pace pick. High Risk but also High reward type player. He's pretty much guarantee to be there at #8. 2) Quenton Nelson - We just let go our best guard. What better way to upgrade then to get someone who's hopefully at his level and is much younger. Many teams need a guard but many mocks have him going pass us. 3) Minkah Fitzpatrick - One of the better DBs in the draft. Can play all position. Decent chance of him hitting #8 and many mocks have him going later 4) Calvin Ridley - With the recent Cam news. This somewhat puts the Bears back in the WR race. What better way to fix the WR position then adding the most day one ready WR in the draft. 5) Saquon Barkley - Some members want speed and hands for a RB. Even though we have Howard I'm sure many want Barkley to fall to us. Heck I've seen many mocks of him going pass the top 10. Is the position worth such a high premium pick?
I just posted a article in which they trade down and take the CB Oliver. Kollman said he's the best CB in the draft, so if you can get a 3rd or more and get a stud CB by dropping out of 8 then why not. You can then use the 2nd and 3rd and 4ths on Edge/ILB/OG(or oc)/WR and come out looking pretty good.
Man... I don't know... so many things we can use. We now need a developmental WR (even more than before) and a G, so getting a LB or CB means we now leave open a hole that Pace created by letting Sitton go. Still more holes than good picks. Two steps forward and one back. We are definitely making progress but we also keep stubbing our toe.

I would hate that. A 1st round pick, QB excepted, needs to start week 1. A corner is the one place where we have good starters and decent depth.
I’m all for defense in the 1st, my preference in fact, but I’d much rather take Nelson than a CB.

That’s a great analogy and a good way to put it.
Every time I feel like Ryan Pace is really hitting his stride and moving the needle he trips over a crack in the sidewalk by unnecessarily opening a new hole. It would be so nice to have a few draft picks that were “discretionary” and could build depth rather than having to use them filling a need that didn’t need to be a need in the first place.
This situation may work out fine. I know the roster isn’t complete yet of course. But I’ve had faith in Ryan Pace before and he’s betrayed it so I’m a little skeptical.

We have depth for 1 yr. Prince is on a 1 yr deal. Depends on what they could get in the 2nd for OG. Billy Price would bena great OG or OC also, maybe not Nelson but when's the last time you talked about the multi time all pro og leading his team to a SB?
I'm torn about trading down. It may be the best option, but then I think about keeping our pick and getting a truly elite player. I'm not talking about a very good player, but an elite player like we used to have. Maybe even an elite guy who could eventually be a Hall of Fame level player... we used to have those guys. But I get it that we have a lot of holes to fill and it may be best to do a trade down.
I'm just going to watch and see what the final roster looks like, and then watch the season play out this year.
