I'd rank him as a 3rd rounder due to his injury and say anywhere from the late 2nd to the early 4th is where he goes.
Of course Nelson is the stud so many see us taking but even though the odds of him falling to #8 my be improving there's no way to know now and in the end Pace and Nagy may decide to go defense there after all and Ragnow becomes a fall back.
Just in case we pick him, we should start to Rag on him Now
A late high ankle injury sidelined him which may have cost him the #1 OC status in this draft. I sense another Cody Whitehair type kid here who can and has played both OC and OG with equal skill.
He's ranked very late 1st to late as late as the 4th round so should we miss on Nelson or just decide to pass on him for another position it seems like Ragnow would be a good second target for us since he also gives us positional flexibility between OG and OC. IMHO there's also more likelihood he'll be available in two or after than Price or Daniels.
if we take this guy and Nelson i will shed tears of joy.
This draft has a top tier talent, and then a second tier talent that is close to that top tier - at every position in this draft. There are actually 3 or 4 second tier interior OL guys in this draft who would be very very solid for the Bears. And like I said, this is true of most if not all of the positions. This is why I wish we had that third round pick this year. There will be some rock-solid players go in rounds 2 through 4. That's the sweet spot of the draft, and Pace and our scouts have done well there.
But they are not the top-tier. We will get a top-tier talent at #8. I am convinced of that. It may very well not be Nelson, and that's okay. Just get that top guy at #8, and follow up with Pace grabbing solid guys in rounds 2 through 4.
that's the sensible plan. draft is always nuts though, with teams too reactive to other team picks (runs on positions).
