Bumping because deadline to pick up option is a little over 2 weeks away. The differnce between declining Fuller's and White's option is pretty clear:
White has only played 5 games in 3 years whereas Fuller missed a year but rebounded. Fuller turned in an impressive 4th year but expectations for White are no where near as high.
If we go by last year Pace may wait until a couple of days before the deadline eventhough this us an obvious decision.
I just don't see why we would even think of accepting White's 5th year option unless Pace is a complete idiot and can't let go his biggest bust and one of the biggest bust in Bears history.
If White shows something we can always tag him and see if he's playing at that level again. White shouldn't even be on the roster to be honest.
The Chicago Bears did the expected Wednesday when general manager Ryan Pace declined the fifth-year option on wide receiver Kevin White’s contract, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
White, 25, has appeared in only five games since joining the Bears as the seventh overall pick in 2015. Injuries have derailed him thus far in his career, one that he can salvage with a big season under coach Matt Nagy.
The Bears will give White an opportunity to prove he deserves a second contract with the team, but targets may be hard to come by in 2018. Chicago added Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and Trey Burton in free agency and drafted Anthony Miller in the second round of the draft.
White will presumably be in the mix for a starting job opposite Robinson, but that’s far from guaranteed. Chicago may be ready to simply move on with its new cast of pass-catchers.
This is the second time Pace has declined the fifth-year option with the Bears. He took the same approach with cornerback Kyle Fuller last offseason. Fuller responded by having the best year of his career and was rewarded with a four-year, $56 million deal.
