A former Bear has joined Matt Nagy’s staff as an assistant offensive line coach.
The Bears’ hiring of Donovan Raiola makes sense as he has worked under offensive line coach Harry Hiestand previously. SiriusXM’s Adam Caplan first reported the move. Raiola was a member of the Bears practice squad in 2009 and spent two years at Notre Dame as a graduate assistant under Hiestand.
Raiola, the younger brother of former Lions center Dominic Raiola, was the offensive line coach at Division III Aurora University last season.
Raiola started 39 games at center for Wisconsin from 2002 to 2005 and was a three-time All-Big Ten honorable-mention selection and a captain as a senior. He originally joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Rams and also spent time with the Steelers, Seahawks, Cardinals, Buccaneers and Redskins.
Raiola began his coaching career in 2014 as an intern at Hawaii before the two seasons under Hiestand with the Irish.
