The Chicago Bears have some decisions to make on several free agents this coming offseason. They have to decide if they want to let go of tight end Zach Miller or keep him.
Any Bears’ fan knows that Zach Miller has spent a lot of time injured since coming to the team back in 2015. He only played in eight games in 2017 before suffering that gruesome knee dislocation that sent him out for the remainder of the season. Before the injury, he had caught 20 passes for 236 yards for an average of 11.8 yards per catch. He had just two touchdowns for the season, and one famous one denied.
Stay
This is difficult. Miller’s injury is probably going to keep him out of football at least one more year. By the time he gets a shot at playing again, he could easily be 34 to almost 35 years old. That means that his best years will have gone by him. But the Bears are loyal and if Miller chooses to make a comeback, he could do it with the Bears. They would certainly be willing to give him a shot.
Go This is the most likely scenario. Miller’s contract is up at the end of the league year and it’s likely it won’t be renewed. It’s possible that Miller could retire. The safe bet is that he goes out in a good way and retires with the Bears, the team that picked him up when he was down this season. There is a lot of loyalty on both sides.
Verdict
If Miller discovers he will have a long and difficult road to recovery he will retire a Bear before free agency starts this off-season. As sad as it is to say, his football career is likely over.
I don't think he's playing again, no one is going to give him a shot. Give him time and space to make the decision and if he doesn't, gently let him know they are moving on.
Is that a rhetorical question? Dude almost lost his leg for real.
I think even Zach knows what to do. Time to retire.
That's pretty much what I thought Grizz. It's like why is this even a question? Besides, he'd probably make a great coach and mentor so maybe it's time to begin that phase or groom his for scouting or a front office position. He's smart and very loyal to the Bears organization.
I question how sturdy that knee will be. I fit was me, I'd be afraid to walk up stairs, let alone play football again.
You're already afraid of walking up stairs. And down them.
Well, the boss' office is upstairs, so yes, that's a scary walk. And i also broke a toe as a kid running up the stairs to get away from the dryer monster. You know that one, it has tentacles that grab you and pull you inside the spinning cave. You have to be all the way up the stairs to be out of reach . I was 5 or 6 i think. My house now has no stairs, because yes, stairs are scary. So is the dryer monster.
