Very happy with this. Obviously the dragging out of it was frustrating, but Fangio has done a lot with this defense and I'm glad he'll get to see it through and continue. He knows what he's doing, and thats what I want. So I would have been happy with Bettcher or perhaps Edwards, but I'm glad to be getting back what I've come to know. Now, as some have alluded, let's see if he adds any twists to the defense to become a bit more aggressive.
I would be surprised if he got more aggressive. Fangio likes bend but don't break defenses. He's shown repeatedly that he likes to uses disguised coverages over lots of blitzing. When he does it's more of zone style blitz where an OLB drops into coverage and somebody else rushes the passer instead. It's rare to see more than 4 pass rushers on a play. This is why he's a good DC.
I agree and that's yet another reason why adding a stud OLB rusher to start opposite Floyd is critical this offseason. VF doesn't blitz a lot as you say so we need really guys that can get home with only 4 rushing at a time. The secondary is improved no doubt but we still don't have the type of DB-corps that takes the ball away frequently.
This makes me much more comfortable with the Nagy signing. Hopefully Vic is pulling in a good salary. It is obviously a bit difficult working for someone who has the job you interviewed for but they worked it out and we have a bit of continuity.

so i didn't know a lot about Nagy before we signed him, but he's put together a hell of a staff. he also calls a good game with good play design. if you can, watch the 2nd chiefs raiders game. i think that's his first or second game as play caller. he is calling routes that pressure the S quickly allowing the QB to read fast and take deep shots. going to be super fun to watch.
Agreed. But IMO Donatell will be a DC before long.
He's 60 and been around a while...if it hasn't happened by now I'm going to say it's not going to happen.
I would like to know what the delay was. Have to wonder if he was making some demands either on Free Agency or the Draft. We will never know but he got enough to stay I guess. Glad he is back

That age was in regards to Donatell, not Fangio...he's actually 59.

I think Bruce Arians was 59 when he became interim HC at Indy and was 60 when he took over Arizona.

Yeah...but how many other HC's get their first gigs at 60? Especially coming off position coach spots? He's also been a DC before with the Packers and Falcons from 2000 to 2006. 10 years and he hasn't sniffed a DC gig while working for one of the better DC's in the league? Writing is kind of on the wall...but I guess anything can happen.

Also some coaches find that they don't like going beyond a certain position and like their little nook. Lovie basically had to strong arm Marinelli into being DC after we initially hired him as a defensive line coach coming off his failed head coaching gig.
